    Cheatonators...LOL

From what he said, they'll be using different code than DX9 so you can say they tried to get the best out of the engine...or it's REALLY a "The way is meant to be played product", meaning is pro NVidia from the core.

Nothing new, as example, how many EA games are like that?

Yet it will disqualify it as a fair bench because it is using optimized code for NVidia...LOL even if ATI runs CG better.

NVIDIA haven't said a word to me about what's happening regarding this game and its performance on the GeForceFX line.

That said, please read a few relevant parts in my latest semi-regular Reverend at The Pulpit post, regarding what happens behind closed doors. I said "who knows"... but, really, we know a bit. And it all doesn't sound good.

    _ahem_

Sorry, just every once in a while when you drop teasers like that I'm gonna let ya know you drive me absolutely NUTS and I know you ain't gonna say anything until you're good and ready to.

Thanks for the teasers, but that's almost as nasty of a cliff-hanger as Reloaded was! ;)

Hardware vs software..hmm Yes ATI had problems but was it realy ATI's the one problem I know about was NeverwinterNights, But it is well known that NWN was optimized and built to run on NVidia cards, it was a software issue not a hardware one. Thats why drivers and patches fixed it. It would appear that it is a hardware issue with the NVidia cards..for one they only 4 pixel pipelines compaired to ATI's 8. among other things,
The only way drivers can fix this problem is to make the code either run slower, or turn some code off, so the core does not have to work as hard..Thus we already see 16 bit instead of 32 bit being used..thats only half the information being processed. Then we have the (cough) optimizations NVidia has been doing, in otherwords cutting corners to increase Frame Rate. ATI came out with their first DX9 cards before Microsoft even officially released it ( i.e. 9500, 9500 pro, 9700, 9700 pro) and it would appear they hit the bullseye. Nvidia has had how long now to see this problem and fix it??
Also, Vision Tek, a once NVidia card maker, now makes ATI cards, MSI is starting to make ATI cards, and I heard the other night Asus was going to make ATI cards ( I hope they make them as good as they always did NVidia cause I heard they did an awsome job) That should tell ya something. If card manufacturers are running they must know something we don't, remember they are making, or not making money selling these cards.
thirdly looks like the 9900 (R360) series is going to be clocked above the FX series,
that was from X-Bit labs If the 9800 pro is doing this good immagine how good the 9900 will do..I am so glad I waited and look forward to getting this card (Hope Asus hurries..lol)

The conclusion that FX is crap on DX9 was warranted even before TR was released all the synthetic benchmarks showed the same thing. Even Dawn is running faster on Ati hardware using a wrapper than it does on the FXs.

There are no visual bugs in TR with the FXs using CG everything is rendered correctly blaming driver bugs for bad performance is not only a bad excuse it is completely undocumented.

TR even has specific optimizations for the FXs like pp hints almost everywhere and CG support.

No it is not. When a product is launched nine months ago and all evidence since then has pointed in one direction it is not too early to draw conclusions.

That would be unwarranted conclusion Valve has put a lot of hard work in getting Halflife 2 to perform well on a wide range of graphics boards including the FXs.

Even if everything you say is true regarding "bugs", the nv35 still isn't competitive with R350 in DX9 feature support in this game. IMO, if nVidia's current offerings are indeed that buggy, that's reason enough to avoid them. "Bugs" are faults, not excuses, and nVidia's been using the "bug" excuse for months--it's wearing thin. Besides, the DX9 saga with nVidia didn't begin with this DX9 game--it began last year when nVidia quit the 3dMK03 program.

What rock have you been hiding under since nVidia paper-launched nv3x last year? You have no point here. ATi's been shipping the R3x0 products since one year ago this month--by September '02 it was readily apparent that the 9700P was a great product. nVidia's had literally ages comparatively to fix nv3x--and hasn't done so. You should face the fact that nv3x isn't "fixable" in regards to the kinds of DX9 features being looked at here.

Of course, Newell said no such thing. What he said was that nV3x doesn't support centroid sampling in hardware--which is still as true now as it was when he said it. R3x0 supports centroid in hardware, however. nVidia's worked around the hardware limitation, whereas ATi's simply enabled centroid sampling in its drivers. That's going to be the story for nV3x--"workarounds" to address the limits of it's DX9 hardware feature support. The thing about hardware is you either have it or you don't--if you don't then no amount of "bugs" and workarounds will be able to disguise it. If you do have the hardware, then it will be evident from the start. That's been the nature of the R3x0-nV3x competition since it began.

It is still a great product to me. It comes a close second to the original Voodoo and quite a bit ahead of third-placed GF3 for me.

    Just wanted to say that.

I agree completely. When I put my 9700 Pro in last November, I got that same "Wow!" factor that I got when I installed an Orchid Righteous 3D all those years ago. Nothing has given me the same level of "Wow!" until I installed the 9700 Pro. It is just such a great upgrade, such a leap forwards.

I agree with both you guys--that was my reaction, too--when I took out my Ti4600 and replaced it with a 9700P last Sept.--WoW...;) I hadn't had as much fun since the V5 and FSAA...;) (Not to slight the V1, you guys...it's just easier for me to remember the V5 5.5K...;)) I also bought the Righteous 3D...! And Righteous it was...!

I don´t think the amount of pipelines are relevant at all. It´s bleedingly obvious that the major problem of the NV3x line was the transition from the chalkboard into actual silicon.

It is a hardware issue if you strip it down and while I wouldn´t exclude the possibility that next generation Detonators might improve shader performance (more likely for NV35 only), chances are low IMHO that they´ll ever reach what R3xx can deliver there.

The only other effective "fix" would be to recall the entire NV3x line and replace them with cards where the design is TWIMTBI(tm) ;)

GF4 to 9700 Pro. I ran Animusic and was impressed. I moved the mouse and realized the damned thing was being rendered in real time and just sat back in my chair slack-jawed. 8)

Walt, Reverend, BZB and Dig I think you guys are exaggerating in regards to your 9700 experience. If one of you would be so kind as to send me one I will gladly clear up any misconceptions.

From GF4MX440 to 9700np which I manage to flash to 9700Pro and yet O/C it to 390/630 (still waiting a kickass cooper cooler to make that the default)...the jump alone is a WOW....but I prefer to call it the Drool Factor.

    No that's not the problem.

The proof is in the pooding. Just be a tad more patient.

I have heard this too, look at this from beyond 3d
I have also heard that NV choses to lower its textures to 16 bit, to speed things up, where ATI can use 32 bit..What is the difference?? remember when we went from 16 bit to 32 bit in cpu architexture?? 32 bits can hold twice as much data than 16 bit, twice as much data = twice as much immage quality. and ATI does it faster.
