about "console talk"

is it tolerated that we talk about moderation style of some moderators or is it unwelcomed ?
i wouldn't like being banned..

It is obviously right, and I would say constructive criticism is prolly welcome.

I suppose you're in disagreement about the way the console forum us moderated ?
I have to say I see a bit many threads locked those days....

the problem is that, the console part gets like 100x times more views than any topic started here. Id like to see one of those threads moved here, that way we get plenty of feed back. :)

on the subject at hand. Threads that TALK about emulators should be allowed. They are not inherintly bad, and are not illegal. Do not be followed by the likes of nintendo, sony, and ms. the illegality comes from the roms. Also P2P software is not illegal but the some of the content shared on the network is illegal.

Since no one bothers to read my comments in the locked thread but yet felt the need to start 4 threads complaining about it being locked I will just quote my self

I'm locking this thread since I don't know if its allowed. I will ask the higher ups and if it is allowed then I will unlock it
Sorry If i wanted to lock it till I knew it was alright to post so that the owners of this site didn't get in trouble. As for other threads being locked. When you have 4 or 5 pages of bickering going on and name calling the thread gets locked. If you tons of pictures of girls and links to pictures of girls even if they are booth girls it will get locked. It is a console forum. If you post 2 posts complaining about your thread being locked with out reading the reason why those extra threads will be locked.

EMU discussion is OK. Posts talking about ROM distribution or links to ROM downloads are not allowed and should be removed if made.

Not enough IMO. The mods here should shut down those massive, on-topic flame wars when they show up, which they don't. Banning of some of the worse offenders is not happening. Be more aggressive, not less. For instance, tomorrow, when HL2 benchmarks come out, gear down for martial law. The flaming is out of hand here, and the forum sucks during that time.

I try to lock as many flame threads as possible. But many of the forum users get mad when I do. Its a catch 22. I just try the best that I can to keep the forum in line. I sometimes make mistakes. But i believe that 90% of the time i do a great job.

that's what you said in the gamecube thread but was it accessible to us ? i don't remeber reading that post you quoted

It is illegal to post emulators. So i locked the thread so the site owners would not get in trouble. This is being locked to. Site feed back is where a thread like this is meant to be.

*and* that what i could read now that i created a thread here, yesterday in the same post i remember i only read you said that it's illegal to post emulators and *you didn't mention* that the matter could be discussed here. of course i may have memory problems...

the impression from the locked threads i just remember reading that you gave your motives and that we should avoid discussing the fact you locked the thread otherwise we would be banned... you shall not mess with your moderator !!

i think it has more to do w/ clumsiness (?) than an admiration of totalitarian regime but i found it to be a little bit "stalinian style" :/

what i don't understand also is why you locked thread when sometimes it seemed more appropriate to edit some posts, like in the thread w/ the booth babes..

and about the booth babes i don't see the problem w/ it as it isn't porn, it's only booth babes, you can see them when you go to the expo ! and this is not like this has nothing to do w/ consoles, it reflects the marketing policy of the publishers, it is very important ;)

of course if it were booth babes from the car expo it would really have nothing to do with consoles..

of course i'm not qualified at all so i may be entirely wrong !
it's so easier to bitch about others work that to do the work...

regards, luc.

I'm sorry but your wrong

Here is the first topic which anyone could read even though i locked it (it is now unlocked that I got the okay) http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8143

You can read exactly what I wrote.

Here is the second post complaining about me locking the first. http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8207

Now in the second one you can see that the person who is complaining did not even bother to read about why i locked the thread. He just wanted to complain that I locked it . Here is his other post which another mod had locked. http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8202 . Two posts in the console forum meant to do nothing else but complain and start flames.

Now i don't care if people have a problem with what i do . Its the way that forum is . What I do care about is that none of these threads belong in that section. That is why there is a site feedback thread. And I doubt his two posts complaining about locked threads brought any valid arguements to the table .

It was very simple . I saw something which I thought might be harmfull to the site. SO i locked the thread until I could find out if it was harmfull or not. Now I know that emulation is okay to talk about but not roms. I wasn't far off in my thinking as emulators need roms to run the games. So it was not a far leap at all.

You said you didn't lock the first - did you or didn't you?

I never accuse you of locking my first thread either if you'll read my post.

I was complaining about MY thread being locked, but also mentioned the other thread that was locked as an example of threads that have been locked lately for no real good reason. Given that it wasn't a link to an actual program or anything, I thought it was overly harsh locking a thread with screenshots of a program.

And it wasn't meant to start flames, it was to get you to take a look at your moderation style. But obviously you don't want to take any criticism on board.

If my thread had been moved in the first place rather than locked people wouldn't have been so riled. I've already explained my reasons for posting in the Console forum, and people have agreed with me.

The problem isn't one thread though, it's how many threads are being locked for no particularly good reason.

just my 0.02 €

i think everyone has said what he/she had to said, there is no point continuing arguing infinitely...

things are not that bad: nobody was banned, just some threads locked..

i suggest we stop focusing on this anecdote and return to our usual stuff ;)

if sometime in the future someone think there is still a problem, it will be still possible to start new thread, in the good forum ;)
