Heck depending on how good their multiple rendering technology is two x800 xl's might be pretty nice, of course I don't think I want to buy into them w/o support for p/vs3 simply because I would hope that it would allow me to play future games, and then it might actually matter. Still though that leaves the door open for their next set of cards, which hopefully will blow us all away :p

Understood. But don't hold graphics cards solely responsible for advances in gaming experience. The graphics API, CPU, fab tech and developer/artist creativity are all factors too. What sorts of things would enhance your experience over today's games?

I dunno, now that you're able to get something like an X800 XL for $200-300 I'd argue that it is almost worth it to upgrade from an R3xx.

I didn't get any new eye-candy when I went from my 9700 pro to X800 TT, but I sure got a whole lot more smooth and zippy. (My 9700 pro died, I was sort of forced to upgrade.)

I'm seriously considering an x800 XL or 6800 GT to go with my 3200+ 939 A64...I can rationalize it in my own mind (upping from a 9700 Pro), but the wife is slightly more skeptical (she simply scoffed)...:(

Oh man, you should have seen the look on my wife's face when she found out my new viddy card had cost us $469us! :?

$469 is too much for it, but $200-300 for it sounds right on the mark about now.

Well you can't get an AGP x800 XL for $200 or even $300. $350 is more like it...too bad I can't use FF miles for video cards!

Well it only makes sense for this SKU to be stillborn since it would have perpetuated ATI's 0.13u low-k capacity constraint problem, just as the X800 Pro likely contributed to doing. This way they send the higher volume to 0.11u (XL) and can recuperate the 0.13u capacity to accommodate 16-pipe R480 chips in both PCI-E and AGP.

I certainly hope ati is able to get the performance of the 800 pro and 850 pro up their through their so-called programmable memory controllor, which doesn't appear to be getting much use, since the 3 quad boards still aren't efficient with the memory bus.
Has any other graphics company charged more for a slower part, in recent history?
The only part that is good about them, is that they over clock better, but depending on your X800xl overclock, there could be little different, while paying more.

games that utilized the rendering power available for better looking graphics, not higher levels of aa and af, or shoddy sloppy programming.

Is it really worth getting a PCI-E card if the AGP versions can keep up? I mean looking at the review the AGP even beats the PCI-E a few times.
