Well, I guess that tells us how they managed to pull up the launch date from Nov 12th then, doesn't it?

    Welcome to Sweden.

I'll wait a few weeks and see what RV670 has to offer, and it's not like my 8800 GTS is that bad either.

Though its not much. I havent had the cards any longer than Rys ((I got home before him though. Nyah :p ))

I did a mini 8800GT SLI performance preview.

You know I first had the exact initial impression. But the more I thought about it. The more I realised that a card like this is more important than a new high end. With the abomination that is performance of the HD2600/8600 line this card was very important. Not everyone can afford a Geforce 8800GTX and this brings performance to people who dont have alot of money.

It's going to be interesting to see if they can keep those gaudy margins selling a gpu this size at price points (at introduction anyway) that have traditionally featured GPUs more around 150mm2. But again, that's the bean counter end of the business.

Most of the review out there are incomplete. Just about all have no video decoding test and very few have GPU temp test at load. Its strange to have power usage and nosies test but no temp test at load with it. The only video decoding test I have seen if Hanners review at Elite Bastards but no VC1 test in that review. I how beyond3D will have a complete review when its up.

hehe, the 8800GT does not, but the G92 does when packaged as a tesla (or quadro) card. ;)

the double precision feature is like quadbuffer stereo or gsynch, they want to make money with it in the application areas where it is needed. so if they would bring a 250$ consumer card which can be used like a 10x mor expensive compute card noone would buy it. trust me the G92 has dp abilities (maybe disabled on a hardware level) but they will not show in the consumer lines (i even doubt they will show in the quadro line).

Most of us just didnt have the time with the cards we would have liked. I know most of the editors were at editors day. I flew out on friday afternoon and got home saturday morning. But I know alot of editors who didnt even get out till sunday time. Just not much time.

As far as temp loads. I find for the temps arent really that different in my experience from the 8800GTX. But GPU fans have smart control on them for their RPMS. Whats more interesting is the way the cooler sounds.

When you first boot the system up the cooler is almost as loud as a FX5800U. But once it reaches windows its dead silent. And while gaming its a little bit louder than an 8800GTX cooler.

I only recorded a few degrees difference under constant load in a GeForce 8800 GTS' favour, with the GT far cooler at idle. Certainly nothing to get excited/worried about.

Thankfully, I got our sample board by Thursday evening, which gave me a few days to bash away with it every way I could think of. Even then, I had to cut out a few things due to time constraints.

Holy crap! A silent cooling for a card this powerful? That's nuts! Think of the amount of money you save in the winter by not turning on the heat! Seriously though, the only powerful card I remember with silent cooling was the 7950 GX2, and that card was a beast. I wonder why people don't make more silent cards. Am I the only one here who loves silence over overclockability?

They said they would introduce DP hardware before the end of the year at the Tesla launch event, but they also specifically said last week that G92 does not have double precision. If they are making a distinction between G92 and G92GL, okay, but I'm certainly not convinced that this is the case.

I'm not sure why people are getting so heated (haha!) about temperature.

    No, absolutely not!
