The advantage of digital PA systems is in energy efficiency and package size (less heat->smaller package), - that's why you mostly see digital amps in car audio systems. Noise and SNR is usually worse for digital amps than their analogue counterparts.

    Cheers

ClassD amps must be getting better. My amp is AB, and it draws up to 500 or 550watts. If I could get something with relatively the same power output and in the same ballpark of signal to noise ratio, but with dramatically higher energy efficiency, I'd be all over it.

We're gettin' way off topic here .... expensive cables are BAD!

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised Denon would stoop to this level... oh well, at least amazon.com's customer reviews section for this disgrace of a 'product' is worth a few chuckles.

At least I can find comfort in the knowledge that all my cables are not only low calorie, but free from artificial flavourings as well

I disagree. Being stupid is not by choice. In the scammer vs. stupid guy battle I'm rooting for the stupid guy.

Besides, it's not about being stupid, it's mostly about not being educated about it. I could see myself easily getting scammed on products outside my field of expertice. I support every "truth in labelling" law. For markets to work efficiently information must be truthful.

    That is true.

Perfect information is one of the key assumptions so one would assume that most folks would support those laws whatever their ideology.

And whoever linked that monoprice place, they have some pretty nice deals man. Thx

Yep. There's a lot of people that don't understand the technology. I mean, most people don't give a shit about digital signals, and have no understanding as to how an ethernet or HDMI cable works. The ethernet cable still seems like a much tougher sell, but I can understand how the average consumer can get tricked into buying overpriced HDMI cables.

The Panasonic pure digital has been reviewed to sound as good or better than some amps costing 10x as much. The only complaint is that it leans more towards the bright side, so the speaker combination may be important if that bothers you. As for clarity, they are fantastic.

P.S. only digital input should be used on the Panasonic, the analog input is just converted to digital anyway. It's much better to keep it digital the entire chain, then it's converted to analog at the very end by the speaker.
