DSA: Nintendo chose you as the official provider for developer kits for the Nintendo DS. When was this relation built and how did it come together?

RE: We have enjoyed a long history with Nintendo. Metrowerks has been a major player in the gaming industry since 1996 when we created the first toolkit for the NINTENDO 64.

DSA: With all the unique features that the Nintendo DS has integrated, how difficult was it to create a developer tool kit for the system?

RE: It wasn’t as much difficult, but rather a great challenge. We have been in the games business for quite sometime, so our team was really excited about the opportunity to create the SDK.

DSA: What was probably the hardest part about developing the developer kit for the Nintendo DS?

RE: From a pure development standpoint, the most challenging aspect was the multi-core debugger. The Nintendo DS has an ARM 7 and ARM 9 chipset.
