    How was he a hater?

Isn't the question whether it is even the greatest Bond movie of all time controversial enough?

1 of the greatest movies period, not 1 of the greatest bond movies.

this movie easily ranks up therer with classics like terminator 2, goodfellas, schindlers list, batman begins etc.

So, just to be clear - you want this thread only full of people who agree with you, right? Maybe better remove that question mark from the topic title then. ;)

I read the topic title and somehow I fail to understand it. A Bond movie and "one of the greatest of all time" doesn't go together. Not at all.

It was okay as a movie, certainly a very interesting and successful way of resetting the Bond franchise, but it does have it's issues. Daniel Craig pouts though the whole movie with the same "blue steel" expression as Derek Zoolander. He's rather potato faced and his ears stick out so much you could put three hundred people on him and call him a jumbo jet. The pacing is very uneven, with some very slow sections in a very long film. Characters are frequently two dimensional, with the portrayal of Bond's "emotional side" clumsy and heavy handed. While a lot of action scenes are impressive, you have to ask almost every time how impressive they would be if Bond (a professional killer) could actually keep hold of his gun for more then three seconds into every fight. The baddie is pretty underwhelming, and some scenes (such as the naked torture scene) actually make the audience laugh where they are not supposed to. Action scenes are clever with a lot of twists, and the cinematography is often beautiful.

So while as a Bond movie, Casino Royale certainly rates pretty high up in the long history of Bond movies, when compared to all the other moves that have ever been made, it doesn't have the depth, entertainment, or escapism of many other "greatest ever" titles. It doesn't say anything to us, it doesn't touch us deeply, and you can find your mind drifiting during the slow parts. It provides pretty good, but not outstanding entertainment. That still makes it better than ninety-five percent of all the other movies out there, most of which are dross, but it doesn't elevate it to one of the "greatest movies of all time".

It's not just one of the best Bond films but also one of the best movies to come out of Hollywood. 94% at Rotten Tomatoes. But of course there will always be the controversial badasses that don't like it just because it's so successful or "There is no Bond but Sean Connery" elitism.

Great movies stand the test of time. You can always look at "best movies" lists and see people who voted that their favourite move of all time was the hit movie that came out a few months ago, but that's just really the flavour of the moment, and many will simply not be remembered in a year or two. You get the same short-term fashions in music and clothes polls.

There no doubt Casino Royale is a good film. It's a very good Bond film, which is hardly surprising as so many of them were sucky, or now very much dated as a product of their times. Is it an all time great? Will it be remembered in the same way that the Peirce Brosnan Bond movies will be remembered when people were lauding them as the best Bond movies ever? Will it be remembered with the same plaudits as a Lord of The Rings, Star Wars, Casablanca, Philadelphia Story, North by Northwest, Blade Runner, Alien, To Catch A Thief, Some Like It Hot, etc?

Well only time will tell. I don't remember anyone saying the Brosnan Bond movies were great except for Goldeneye(and the director of that movie is the same one that directed Casino Royale).

The only good thing about GoldenEye was that Brosnan proved to be a fairly decent Bond. The movie itself, well, it was literally the first time in my life that I ever dosed off during a movie.

On the other hand, I loved Tomorrow Never Dies, which I rank as one of the best Bond films. Then again, who am I - I also liked A View to a Kill a lot, even though it's completely not done to like Roger Moore bond films. ;)

When exactly does a movie "come out of Hollywood"?

I haven't even seen it yet, but I can safely say it's in no way, shape or form a candidate for "greatest movie of all time."

I haven't seen it, but bond alone makes the movie one to remember forever and ever, forever and ever... at least for bond fans, or fans of agent 007, it appears I'm saying the same thing using different words. For me even that which is unknown is the greatest for I believe that girls hell even movies that I don't know, I try not to judge a book by its cover or its content, or at least I try, I try, yet I prefer they live forever in bliss and me forever in hell or twilight from time to time to get a glimpse of them.

I respect the dead but more than that the living and their living wills, yet I hope for an even brighter tomorrow. That is why I respect the works of others be they alive or dead, they live on through their works or through continuing said works. To question the work of someone, Is but a nigh unforgivable insult that could drive some to commit suicide, even innocent fans.... yes even innocent children could be driven down the path of rape, crime, drugs, mass murders, genocide, global annihilation... all spawned from a single insult to a single actor, writer, or creator of content.
