Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 3.2Ghz

Seagate 320GB 16MB cache

I'll post later what my laptop has.

Thanks.

Sony Vaio laptop (1.7 GHz Pentium M, 1 GB RAM, ATi M9700 (64 MB VRAM)):

Processor: 3.6
Memory: 4.1
Graphics: 2.0
Gaming Graphics: 3.6
Hard Disk: 3.9

The scores aren't exactly earth shattering, but Vista runs well on this laptop. Feels more responsive than XP did.

Processor: 4.5

Graphics: 2.3
Gaming Graphics: 3.0
Primary hard disk: 4.1

This is my laptop. Core Duo at 1.6Ghz, 1.5GB, 5400RPM 80GB, Intel 945GM integrated.

Like NRP the score does not paint the whole picture here. Frankly the laptop runs much better in Vista than XP. I was rather shocked when I let my parents use it for a trip and they came back saying "What did you do to it? Last time it wasn't nearly as fast, and it also looks so much better!" Vista is simply much more responsive. My parents also found a number of the integrated features wonderful, they were able to send photos that were done with the editing software in Vista and my mom really enjoyed making her own simple DVD from their trip. The laptop handles Aero fine for those wondering, it uses Aero as default.

I couldnt handle the slowness of Vista over network file transfers, benchmarks, games, etc. It did ran snappy while the automatic backups and indexing service etc were disabled. As for running snappier than XP i think it has do more with the UI than anything else especaially if you have a decent enough dx 9 graphics card. I switched to XP ( my custom tweaked xp) and boy this C2D machine flies! just to give you numbers, there is the oracle soa suite that I installed on my laptop (old one is 3.4 ghz with 2 gig ram) and that one took 30 min to install. My new laptop with 1 gig less ram and C2D at 2.33 took 9 min. Once the software starts running it tkaes up a gig of RAM easy but the speed just blew me away! Under Vista....nope.

No that bench is a Vista exclusive unfortunately. I didnt "buy" it as it came installed on my laptop. Theres a Performance icon now under the Control Panel which asseses your machine and lets you know what your scores are.

Why does it only give a monkeys about your primary hard disk partition? The disk that's on for me is probably the slowest in my system, and I never install a game to it.

I'd love to see what the tests actually did. Especially when it comes to the Direct3D ALU test :devilish:

Hard drive because its the one windows is installed to. I wonderwhy the graphics score is generally lower than the gaming graphics, which makes little sense to me.

Certainly not the fastest system, but do I get a prize for the most imbalanced Vista Score?

I have yet to tweak my system setup, just working on getting the pieces installed and stable first. I expect the RAM scores to hit 5.9 once the system is tuned. It's a shame they haven't enabled an index of 6.0 or higher yet.

5.9 : Processor
5.9 : Memory
5.9 : Graphics
5.9 : Game Graphics
5.8 : Hard Drive

Vista x64 Ultimate

Tweak Note: Manually set timings to 5-4-4-12, FSB of 300 (from 266), and selected 2:3 memory ratio. This gives an equivalent of DDR2-900 and 2.7Ghz Quad Core (still on retail HSF). The Memory scores jumped from 5.7 to 5.9 with those minor tweaks. I'm not sure if it was the manual timings or the FSB that pushed it up. Maybe I need to RAID-0 my drive to get that to the 5.9 index.

This system is really going to scream once the rest of the water cooling equipment comes in.
