Nooooooooo

The release of Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation 3 title LittleBigPlanet has been delayed in Europe.

The game was due for release next week, October 24, but now some retailers are estimating the game may be delayed by three weeks until November 14.

However, GamesIndustry.biz understands that the title may not suffer such a long delay to retail, and a new date is expected to be announced by Sony shortly.

LittleBigPlanet has reviewed incredibly well in the specialist press and anticipation is high from consumers who have already had access to the beta of the game.

Sony has said that the game is a system seller for the PlayStation 3, and the title is considered one of the most important releases for the home console this Christmas.

Sorry I can't edit posts but I found more information

Gamereactor has given Little Big Planet the ultimate vote of confidence our highest grade, but as the release date is only days away we hear that the game will be delayed. It would appear that a song on the soundtrack includes lines that could be offensive to people with certain religious beliefs more specifically the song quotes the holy Quran, something that is not taken lightly by the muslim community. The song is Toumani Diabate's Symmetric Orchestra's 'Tapha Niang'.

Err.... shipping with 'Tapha Niang' would be suicidal. Can't they patch the song out when first launched ?
(Oh wait, they can't. There are people who play without network).

On a happier note, LBP scored a 10/10 in the latest Edge. That doesn't happen too often to games I love. ;)

I wonder if the NA version will remain unedited, with the song intact. And if not, will there also be a delay.

Damn I hate religions. Must not type more...

This particular reason for the song being removed bothers me as well. But I decided it was probably best to leave it be and not comment on that.

EDIT

Perhaps an optional patch, to remove the song on a per user basis, would be a good compromise.

Seems official now

During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.

We will confirm the new launch date shortly.

I've cancelled my order at a british online retailer and placed a new order at videogamesplus.ca It seems it will take longer to get a copy here i then fly it in from Canada.

I've read on the European PS3 community forums that it is a "worldwide" delay.

My order has the state "processing" so I'm crossing my fingers that vg.ca does ship my order.

I love that song, I don't want it removed. How about all the offended parties just not buy it? It's not like playing video game is permitted by the zealots anyhow.

Personally if I were Sony I'd say "If Ala (pbshbpph) doesn't want the song heard he will twinkle his nose and make it silent, if not then he approves."

Ya, as they are both mature shooters

I have my copy, I just want the servers to go online and have everyone else to play with.

Releases are staggered out so they're not competing with people's budgets and proper marketing windows can be allocated to each in terms of materials and focus. Try to compose a thought before rolling your eyes.

I think he meant in a more general, competing for "entertainment dollars". It's competing that way for me, at least, with about 5 other titles.

EDIT

It seems he did mean it that way.

That was my initial, highly annoyed, reaction. But I figured if someone doesn't want the song played, let them download a patch to block it, as a good compromise. Of course, that doesn't fully resolve the apparent issue with the game, as it seems the request is to have it removed so that no one can hear it. Quite ridiculous, IMO.

That is the problem that I have with this matter. Fine that you do not want to hear it, but what makes you decide for everyone else. Otherwise I don't even want to touch this one.

For current owners they'll likely release a mandatory patch (if you want to go online) that would edit the content.

Where is the Nov 4 release date posted for LBP?

There are multiple game being released every Tues for the next month, I don't think two games from two ends of the spectrum are going to effect the sales of either game.

I am extremely upset and disappointed. I have been so unbelievable hyped for the game. I have even taken time off work (first time ever) to play. Why even delay the game? Patch it! From what I hear the song is actually kick ass as well. What is quoted that is making the big uproar is that it is translated into saying that we are only mortals. Oh no!
