IGN - Exclusive PS3 Spider-Man
Activision gives Sony owners special treatment and unleashes the Goblin.

Scheduled for a simultaneous release with the regular version of Spider-Man 3 in early May, Spider-Man 3 Collector's Edition will add a number of bonus features not available on other platforms. Webisodes from the Spidey 3 movie, an exclusive interview with producer Avi Arad, and behind the scenes talks with Tobey Maguire, Topher Grace, Thomas Haden Church, James Franco, JK Simmons, and Bruce Campbell are also included. Players will even be able to access special Spider-Man 3 trailers and a couple of other undisclosed goodies.

But that's not the best part.

No true believers, the best and most interesting addition to the PS3 Collector's Edition is the ability to play as a completely different character, the "New Goblin." Using a unique locomotion system that's entirely controllable with the Sixaxis gamepad, the New Goblin will be able to zip through the city streets and between skyscrapers and other buildings at super-high speeds.
Nice little plus for the PS3. Check out the new pics as well.

Does Activision get the right to publish Spiderman 3 from Sony (or is it Marvel)? I bet Sony paid out the ass for this right.

The fact the Sony owns the rights to the movie probably means they own the rights to games based on the movies. Which probably means they didn't pay Activision anything but kindly hinted that if they didn't do anything they wouldn't get the contract next time. Or something similar.

It looks like it is just the "collectors edition" that is exclusive to PS3. From the interview portion:

That thrill is set to return this May with the release of Spider-Man 3 on PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360.

I personally feel that Sony should have made Spiderman a big budget PS3-exclusive and hype it like grazy, as it's a huge franchise which owns the box office. In my opinion quality Spiderman game with solid marketing tied with the movie would most likely be an outstanding success for Sony game studios. Now all the leverage they get is the special edition and the..err.. font...
So much potential, wasted.

Edit: BTW the thread title is misleading.

it would probably be a good idea if they could pull it off, but I would think Marvel would have the final word on such a deal, and considering how they milk the franchise I can't see them letting it be exclusive to any one platform.

Maybe they'll do it with Casino Royale.

Same problem. In this case EA holds the rights to all James Bond games. Only possible way would be paying EA to make an exclusive and honestly, I don't really want to play an EA JB game. :p

The pictures look AWFUL in my opinion. I can't believe it's supposed to be a game for the PS3. It's almost like they just ported over the PS2 version to the PS3, and made it high def but added little or no improvements.

I loved the previous Spiderman games. I played them at a friends house. But the graphics on this one is HORRIBLE if it's supposed to be a PS3 game.

I too am surprised, but I guess it's a case of Sony Pictures wanting as much money as possible, rather than Sony overall wanting a cohesive, cross-industry, synergistic platform strategy that leverages Sony's IPs to extend Sony hardware.

Well one of you has to be wrong ?

In any case I understand now.

Seems like chroniceyestrain got it right. The rights switch from EA to Activision in Sept. 2007

Since 1999, Electronic Arts has held the exclusive rights to develop games based on the official James Bond films. In 2003, MGM Interactive extended their deal with EA till 2010, however, this deal will end in September 2007 due to EA's commitment to move away from movie franchise games and focus more on internal IPs. Additionally, at least one source claims that EA's inability to develop and have a game ready to tie-into Casino Royale (2006), led to the two companies terminating their deal; MGM standing to lose millions in licence fees [1]. In May 2006 Activision acquired non-exclusive rights to develop and publish James Bond games; an exclusive deal with Activision takes effect in September 2007 [2]. During an earnings report, Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision, announced that their first Bond game would be released in May 2008 [3]. Previously it was reported by Variety that Activision's first game would be a tie-in to Bond 22.

Graphics were never the factor that made the previous spiderman movie games good. It was the gameplay.

That said, I hope this one has similar gameplay like the older ones. Free roaming spiderman was pretty fun.

badboy,

You are right. The gameplay was GREAT in the previous games. However, this is the PS3 we are talking about. It's absolutely pathetic for them to have a PS3 game that looks like an HD version of a PS2 game.

That is three times now that you post in this thread complaining that the game looks crap. I think though that maybe you should do it a few times more, because I don't think anyone got the message just yet.

Personally I think it looks way better than the last gen version. Maybe you can point me to some screens of the older versions that look even remotely close to these? Besides, It's Activison making this right? I don't expect 1st party quality graphics from them.
