New Oblivion PS3 Screens + Info

May be it's me Nesh.

But this screen shot looks like a jaggies feast, and the mountain is awfull :

This one is really awful too.
http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/plein-ecran-461577.html

But others are less striking, but I find the lightning far from great and aliasing is everywhere.

This one seems way better(http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/plein-ecran-461579.html), it's almost strange, in comparison with this one (http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/plein-ecran-461580.html).
The vegetation, and the level of aliasing make me wonder if the 2 screens are coming from the same version.

Edit I've just looked again screens on this thread and it appears that mountain in the 360 is even uglier .
Anyway there is something weird with lightning.

In fact Oblivion is ugly on nextgen... lol

Does some of you have recent two world sreenshots that we would know for sure coming from the 360 version?

hmm...well indeed I see some jaggies. But everything else is intact just in the 360 version I think with the improvements mentioned. Oblivion was never a great looking game anyways (Excluding the modded PC version).

Perhaps you forgot how Oblivion looked in general. These screenshots look just as mediocre as the screenshots posted earlier in this thread IMO.

You can still see the improvements claimed in the previous images too.

For example check the mountain here
http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/plein-ecran-461582.html

and the one here
http://medialib.computerandvideogames.com/screens/screenshot_175044.jpg

Textures and LOD seem improved in general even in these images. Still Oblivion never looked or looks good in any of the images (nor in real life). Its still a mediocre looking game with vast enviroments

So its understandable that it looks ugly in your eyes, but it always looked that way

edit: didnt see your edit while I was writing this. But it seems you noticed what I was going to point to you by yourself before I pushed the button :)

What's most stunning is how Bethesda hid the game's actual looks. This game was bullshotted better than any game in history, IMO.

Yeah, those shots just show you how the game truly looks. You can get the PC version to look better, but it takes massive hardware to run that. At least they fixed up the LOD in this version. That was just ridiculously sad in the original release (and completely hidden in all bullshots).

I've setup up a PC OB with the best mods I can find and I saw it using up all of my 2 GB RAM and 900+ MB texture memory. LOL!! But, that Qarl guy sure knows what he's doing.....wow.

Gothic 3 actually looks a good bit better than stock OB, IMO. And the gameplay can't really be any worse. Though I guess if it's unstable it can lol. It's more demanding from what I've heard...

IMO the Bethesda folks have incredible visions for what game they want to make, but they don't really seem to have the technical wizardry to pull it off really well. But, you also have to remember that there aren't really other games of this scale. Most certainly not as seamless. And the gameplay complaints, I think, are most caused by just the nature of the game they are trying to build. You have to give them credit for basically paving the way and doing it as good or better than anyone else.

No AA or HDR= PS3 version will look worse

It's hard to see in screens but HDR is used quite a bit in the 360 version and so is AA. The PS3 not having these will negate the texture improvements it has especially if the 360 gets some of the PS3 tweaks.

may i ask how you know theres no AA or HDR lighting? i can maybe see that the 360 version has better HDR lighting (specifically, theres more bloom in the snow on the mountains) however, i see NO aliasing in the ps3 version. better textures and draw distances is arguably better than just better HDR lighting.

If the ps3 use hdr( ala PC) it's supposed to be fp16 and it's unlikely in regard to memory footprint.
If the ps3 uses AA (ala pc) it can use in the same time hdr.
I think the ps3 uses none of these techniques.

For aliasing... You should need to see a optician lol, I'm kidding you, don't take offence, but lake of AA is obvious on both version of the game.
(I've find some 360 screen of two worlds and hopefully some devs seem to manage to push better graphics than bethesda on next gen).

PS3 Oblivion:
FP16 HDR
Anisotropic filtering
Better textures
Better framerate
No MSAA

Xbox 360 Oblivion:
FP10 HDR
Trilinear or Bilinear filtering
Worse textures
Worse framerate
2x MSAA

All in all IMHO the PS3 version is much better.

what i meant by "no aliasing" is i see no more aliasing than the 360 version.

if those screenshots are any indication of what the entire game will be like, i personally think the ps3 version looks better overall.

i'v noticed the part that I think true.
I don't think bethesda have change texture, there is no need, it's the filtering who is laking.
Anyway.
Could you give us your sources?
Thanks ;)

For aliasing I see slightly more aliasing on the ps3 version, look at the stairs on the first pic you linked.

I thinkI would favor smoothness to graphics anyway, so if it were in question I would chose the ps3 version.
For graphics, ps3 looks more sharp but the overall lighting makes it looks flat, lifeless.

Anyway I wait to see this moving before any definitive judgement ;)

yeah, i guess. the stairs are the only thing that looks noticeably more jaggy in the ps3 version imo.

to me, the ps3 version has noticeably better textures. as for the lighting making it look flat and lifeless, i think thats just because the colors in the 360 version are more vibrant. but to me, that makes it look too cartoony and fake. the ps3 version looks more lifelike to me.

to each his own i guess.

Agreed, color look more cartoony on the 360 and I tend not like to realistic graphics.

We will have to photoshop this screens aka the forza II thread... lol
No I admit my own bias.

Anyway we will have better captures soon.

Let's all just totally make up nonsense while we're at it.

have to agree oblivion has that circa 2004 pc look to it, the better textures dont change that. som eof quarls textures look worse imo.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ivion_3_PC.jpg

the distant ground textures with the faked normal mapped shadowing look rly bad, and very "off".

I have to say I don't get the whole "2004 PC" look thing. I strongly believe that when modded Oblivion is easily one of the best looking games out there across all systems and I think screens like these back that up:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/pjbliverpool/Oblivion_PC.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/pjbliverpool/Oblivion_2_PC.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/pjbliverpool/Oblivion_3_PC.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/pjbliverpool/Oblivion_4_PC.jpg

Its not a case of just looking like that in stills. While particulary good shots they generally represent the level of outdoor graphics in the game and I personally can't think of another game on any system which demonstrates better graphics including the console graphics flagship, Gears of War which im now playing for the second time over.

I mean, if Oblivon is "2004 PC graphics" then would someone like to show me shots of a PC game at least 2.5 years graphically superior thats available to buy today? Because if you can then I wan't to buy it ;)

He is only refering to the unmodded version thast why and indeed the unmodded version looks mediocre

Thats a pretty accurate breakdown of the two versions, maybe a little rough in its presentation but thats the difference id note for each version aswel.

No it's not. The obvious changes between the two is that PS3 definitely has a better texture filtering. Rest of the things are speculations for the moment.
