What do you mean?

I do ofcourse notice LOD scaling for the other cars in the race, as the ones furthest away looks to be significantly lower poly. I cant see a diff from your car vs the showroom model thought

Yes what Oste is saying is that there's not an obvious (or any) drop down for the main car, or other cars when they close to the screen, as in the dealer ship.

Anyone here who has played the game at expo knows if GT5 still has the ugly shadow artifacting as found in GT5P ?

I should've made it clear..I was talking about Self Shadows in Cockpit view.

I actually dont tend to bother if a racing game has Low res Environment shadows [unless they are real flickery] as I think they are never noticeable in racing games because of the camera distance & constant movement which causes them to pass in few mili seconds. But talkinga bout cockpit view self shadows its entirely diff

Odd, I can't find Gamespot's article on their Polyphony studio visit.

Here's G4TV's take:
http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/6...Home-of-Gran-Turismo---Polyphony-Digital.html

However, the big news is that we finally have game details. Gran Turismo 5 will feature 900 cars, 20 locations, 70 variations of tracks, a new physics model, and promised damage that will affect not only the physical appearance of the cars and affect performance, but for race cars, parts will see physical damage, and also get completely torn off the vehicle. Lose a fender or door, and it will lay in the track – damaging other cars that run into it. It’s about time Polyphony!

The report is somewhat disappointing because they said Kazunori gave a lengthy presentation of GT5 but all I could see is a photo gallery and no in-depth writing. :(

http://www.jvn.com/jeux/articles/interview-gran-turismo-5-r-eacute-v-eacute-lations-exclusives.html

French interview of Kaz by Benoit Trelluyer a french pilot of GT 500 in Japan, he was GT 500 champion with Team Nismo.

It is not into the interview but Kaz said that GT 5 will have day/night cycle and rain and some tyre management. sorry for my english, it is not my native language.

EDIT: the interview is gone. I think too many revelation maybe.

I have the complete interview if someone is interested. Some NDA seems to have been violated.

Finaly the interview is online again with some image and a video.

Someone translated the interview. Is it accurate ?

>> Is there still a chance for a Christmas release ?
To answer your question, it's not delayed. We never officially announced it for 2009. But I understand you're dissappointed.

>> How far is the game ?
The game is finished if all you want to do is take a car and drive. But for the actual game experience, we're at 65%

>> I tried the demo, the cars don't fully deform. Not even when crashing really hard.
We're still working on that. We still have a lot of work to do in that department.

>> What about online ? Will there be race events like in Prologue ?
Prologue worked like an open match. In GT5, there will be private zones for your friends.

>> Will there be more series other than NASCAR and GT500* What about F1 ?
I have always wanted as much championships in the game as possible. That's why we now have Nascar and WRC. But I want all of them.
It's difficult to get all the F1 teams.

>> What about other single seaters ?
Possible.

>> Have you seen Forza 3 ? What do you think of the game ? Have you played it ? Did you take notes or stay focused on GT ?
Our challenge is to improve every GT based on the previous release. But competition is good.

>> Earlier I saw an interesting G-force graphic. Will that be in the final game ?
Do you want it in ?

>> Yes
Then I'll leave it in.
* no idea what he's talking about

Another attempt:

Translating now, will edit when done.
Quick rundown
- game is mostly ready as far as content it seems (ready to race on a basic course today), but 65% of the "experience" only.
- still tweaking the damage model, where they are workign hardest now.
- GT5 has a friends/invitees only area, probably for MP.
- WRC and Nascar in, but F1 difficult to get in there with all teams. He wants as many "championships" in as possible.
- on Forza, he said GT improves with every iteration and he looks at both old GTs and competition and fan's sugegstions and desires. He thinks competition is good and other games in the genre are a good thing.
- G force meter is optional and available. Helps balancing the car and setting it up.

EDIT: About the leak in day/night cycle and other features:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=17792953&postcount=11964

- the game posesses a a day/night cycle and its finally possible to race in the rain.
- tire usage is in, and it varies based on the quality of the driving and also the temperature of the rubber. They showed off details of tire management in the video and you can examine the tracks to optimize your tire setup and sets.

Not sure why these are not mentioned in the interview itself.

I'm french and they don't talk about this details into the interview. It is more something they talk with Kaz off camera or something they saw on GT 5 demonstration. if you watch the video interview some GT 5 screen are blurred.

Well, if it's not officially confirmed, things may change.

Here's Joystiq's interview:
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/09/28/tgs-2009-interview-gran-turismo-5s-kazunori-yamauchi/

It has more details on the damage but I like these questions better:

Joystiq: Are there any plans to bring Gran Turismo PSP's "Party Mode" to GT5?

Yamauchi: I'm glad you noticed that. What we really worked hard to make the PSP portable fun and interesting is in those types of details. Obviously, these are ideas we worked hard on and they will be carried over in some form into GT5.

In Gran Turismo, with its ten years of history, the people that who good at playing the game are really, really good at playing the game. Of course, there are a lot of first-time players that want to get into the game, and it was a major theme for us to develop the game so it would be easier for them to get into it. With the party races and these game modes we've developed for the PSP, we've come to one solution for that aspect.

...

What are your plans for Gran Turismo 5?

GT5 is a title that was pretty much remade from scratch, but because we did that, the next version is actually going to be faster -- the time period it's going to be released. But I think when GT5 comes out, we're still going to have things that are left undone, and whether we complete that in GT6, or the next version for PSP, I'm not sure yet. I've been working very hard for the last 15 years, and I think that hard work is just going to continue.

How about a game that really teaches players how to drive?

To make something that's not just about sports driving, but teaches you how to drive safely and teaches you how to drive in traffic -- that kind of educational software, I think, is something that's very important.

Given the amount of effort invested in simulation, I thought Gran Turismo should be a driving educational title too.

Do they sell controller with full-sized steering wheel ? ^_^

Also happy to know that they have modes for beginner drivers and racers.

Found GameSpot article on their UK site:
http://uk.gamespot.com/sports/blogs...talks-gran-turismo-5.html?tag=topslot;thumb;1

Not much details in general, but they did clarify the online support:

Gran Turismo 5 will have an online presence, but it won't be quite as ambitious as originally planned… at least not yet. When GT 5 ships, it will include online features such as lobbies to set up races, text/voice chat, private rooms, as well as the places to share your photo and replays online (and even the ability to automatically upload your replays to YouTube). However, the plans outlined by Yamauchi back in 2006 for a marketplace that would let players download cars, tracks, and parts, won't be part of the game at launch.

Other enhancements:

Elsewhere in the game, expect some new Phooto Mode enhancements as well as a new and improved Gran Turismo TV with a new user interface, progressive downloading and the ability export videos to your PSP for later viewing.

... plus brief mention of new course and hybrid cars.

Gran Turismo TV

Compared to the leaked list...
* Track variation/layout has increased from "over 60" to "over 70"
* No mention of head tracking but Kazunori mentioned that they are working on some PSEye feature in new interview
* No mention of deformation in damage (The leaked article has slightly more details on types of damages on standard and premium models). Now damage is for all cars with more destruction in the race cars.
* Car models reduced from 1000 to 950
* No mention of custom sound track
Official list does not mention any racing franchises like WRC but it's in the interviews.

I guess day/night tracks or cycle, plus rain may be in the works but not confirmed for GT5 yet.

EDIT: Old leaked article here

Weather cycle confirmed? I'm highly suspecting that since it's not mentioned anywhere else. Also a convincing weather cycle would mean all those environment shadows must be dynamic considering they're static at the moment. Got a feeling it'll affect the performance too much with everything else going on though.

Physics
- New Physics
will GT5 use a different physics engine than Prologue, or will it just be a tuning of the same engine? I remember reading that GT:HD was using GT4's physics, but i thought Prologue was supposed to be diff. maybe i'm mistaken, i hope i am.

Weather is not in the game. At 1:29, Kazunori says PD could do it if they want to, but he didn't commit to it.

If you look at the old Japanese leaked article, it highlighted the differences between GT5 and GT5P where appropriate (e.g., how menu, GTTV are minor evolution of the GT5P system). But under car physics, it says "New physics simulation". It may be a major change or addition.

Well that's what the French source says and they were in PD's office. Though it could have been implied...maybe it won't be a release day feature. Also we already know that Night racing is in it - because we've seen it.
