Resistance - Censoring on JP PS3 models

I learned to my horror today that when you play Resistance on Japanese PS3 it censors blood and "hero moments". Actually I was only horrified after I read such such censoring existed. before I knew they were censoring I was in ignorant bliss. I didn't even realize there was no blood.

Apparently it doesn't matter if it is the US version of the game or the JP version of the game. The discs are actually identical. It censors based on region code.

But awesomely, someone on neogaf discovered that if you copy a savegame from the US version and load it onto your PS3 all the censoring is removed and it runs like the US version.

I'm going to try this work around this evening to see what happens. I'm thinking only SP is uncensored and MP will still be censored but we will see.

It does bite that games like GTA and GoW3 will possibly have censoring on them even if I buy the US game. But maybe Resistance is a special cases because it is a multi region launch title.

Censorship... If there is one thing I hate on this planet, it's censorship!
I hope the guys who make these decisions have horrible nigthmares every night (actually I wish far worse for them, but it's probably better not to say that out loud)

I just tried it. And wow, it does work! It works in both MP and SP.

But I lose my save game so I won't use this hack till I beat the game at least once. The blood effect isn't that great anyway. But at least you get better feedback when you do hit someone.

Where you can save a comrade while they are about to be killed. The only one I noticed was one soldier being attacked by a giant spidery type chimera. Really anti climactic.

Why would they cencor those in the japanese version? Are they THAT violent?

Some of them are from what I've heard, like spikes being thrust through skulls and stuff like that.

That makes so little sense to me to sensor the Japanese version. After all, the first Kill Bill flick when Uma is fighting all those Japanese guys the film then goes into a black and white sequence in the Western Version. In the Japanese version, that scene is in colour, in all its blood and gore, so where's the logic in that? Double standards people.

Movies are rated by a different rating board. CERO rates video games. Eirin rates movies

On a related note the CERO Z rating (The highest rating) for Dead Rising for 360 totally killed that product as a viable franchise in Japan. They can't even advertise it in most stores.

But even with a Z rating, the Japanese version is still gimped. They had to take out decapitations and other violent shit. And since 360 is not region free you can't play the US retail version without importing a whole machine.

I was really hoping I would not have these kinds of problems with the PS3. So far it's just resistance that is censored and that can be hacked anyway.

Still... nothing is bad as Nintendo censorship.

1994 has come and gone. Get over it. And as far as I can tell, this is basically the same thing...Nintendo took the blood out of the first MK, and Sony took the blood out of Resistance. And actually, for "unrestricted image dissemination is foundational to human society" folks, the Resistance thing is worse. Nintendo, a free corporate entity, simply chose not to license a violent game for their own platform, something that the free market perfectly allows in its freedom--no law can force you to sell a product. Nintendo doesn't have to license violent games, and St Ignatius Press doesn't have to publish porn. By contrast, Resistance was censored because of government-sanctioned censor boards.

Nintendo censored the first MK on SNES...that's it. Well..they did censor a brief bit of nudity in a FF3(6) sprite...

However, MK2 on SNES had all the blood and gore of the arcade. Conker on N64 has less censorship than Conker on Xbox(funny huh). And I believe it was Sony that censored BMX XXX on PS2, but MS and Nintendo had uncensored versions.

Nintendo even made a big deal about the RE games being on Gamecube, which were even more graphic than the PS1 counterparts.

But Nintendo is the kiddy company so...
