I thought these numbers were interesting. Sega released about the same amount of titles for each console.

Taking into account that SoA for GCN was only for sale the last 2 days of Jan. It's probably around 70,000 to 80,000 units by now. Sega titles averaging 100,000 each is pretty damn good for them on GCN. Given SoA's 19,693 (2 day) number pulls it down for this comparison. And also given Sega's Sports not doing well on GCN.

Also not so good sales for Sega on XB. Looking at TJ & E with 47,930 units sold despite HEAVY advertising for it. Also PDO at 59,000 units sold despite alot of advertising and good reviews. I think it's a case of Sega really having to find thier audience on each system. I am pretty surprised with PSO reaching 100,000 on GCN. Despite NO advertising and limited quantities the first 2 months of release.

Personally, I don´t think SoA will sell more than 50k (hopefully, the game doesn´t deserve more than that). In any case, doesn´t the great majority of games get most of their sales from the first few days?

Back on topic, I think the fame of Sega´s games selling better on PS2 is justified. 90k more copies are nothing to scoff at. :)

Not that it matters, but Jet Set Radio Future is missing from the Xbox list for 88,071. This would push up the Xbox a little anyway. :)

Bottom line is that Sega Sports should not have gone to GCN and JSRF, PDO, TJ&EIII, and CTIII should have gone to Gamecube. House of the Dead III should have gone to PS2. Most Sega fans went where Sonic Team went - to GCN. PSO for Xbox with voice might change that, but it will probably take more.

Johnny do you see PSO outselling the GCN version? I ask since ports have never done better than the original release.

You know what's wierd? Sega have actaully released more sports games on GameCube then they've released on XBox! That's really crazy stuff there from Sega

BTW can someone answer this question. Are most of those multi-platform Sega sports games released later on GC then on PS2 and XBox? By from a few days to a weeks or something? Or have I heard wrong?

Also PDO at 59,000 units sold despite alot of advertising and good reviews.

PDO came out on the 14th of January and we don't have the numbers for sales in Feburary. Selling 59,000 in two weeks isn't bad at all. I think it will probably reach over 100,000 in the first full month... I also wouldn't say it was heavily advertised. None of segas games except NFL2k3 have been heavily advertised.

I dont see PDO doing much better than that. I doubt very seriously if it get's near 100,000 much less breaking it. But if any non sports Sega game has a chance it may be PDO. It would have cleared 100,000 easily on GCN or PS2 imo. As far s PDO advertising, you've got to be kidding me. It was'nt as much $$ sunk into TJ & E but it had ALOT of advertising on TV and mags.

I also think it's interesting how it seems that the GCN line up of games recieved far less advertising and promotion than PS2 and XB did, yet they did well all things considered.

Teasy, yes several of the Sega sports games came out two weeks after the PS2 and XB release. In the case of NBA was like 2 months. In one instance I went in to the store and the clerk showed it to have released within a week after the other two but it ended up being a month and half later.

Very interesting numbers. Thanks Goldni.

Sonic Adventure 2 sold better on GC then on DC?
As GC and XBOX sales combined are bigger than PS2 sales, what are possible reasons for this?
I thought PS2 installed base was ~50Mill now while GC and XBOX combined are just shy of ~20Mill? (Please correct me if my numbers are wrong)

Anyway, IMO Sega did the right thing with going MultiPlatform.
Now we need some EA numbers for the same period of time. :D

Well that's your opinion, I don't think sega is goign to be dissapointed in that title in the long run. We'll have to wait and see what it's numbers are exactly. It's a great game but way too much for the causal gamers out there. I showed it to a firend of mine and he was totally scared to play the thing, he watched me play it and said, this game is cool, but t's way too much for me.

But if any non sports Sega game has a chance it may be PDO. It would have cleared 100,000 easily on GCN or PS2 imo.

Sorry but that's a prediction that simply can't be made at this point. Nobody knows how it would have sold on any other platform.

No, I'm not kidding at all. PDO was well advertised in print, but when it came to TV commercials, I can't recall ever seeing it. Most people don't knwo wha tthe heck panzer dragoon is anyway.

I also think it's interesting how it seems that the GCN line up of games recieved far less advertising and promotion than PS2 and XB did, yet they did well all things considered.

 I thought you'd see it that way... It's all about the demographics. I spoke to the guys that made Toe Jam and Earl 3 yesterday afternoon. It was a ported dreamcast game with some graphical upgrades. He said that the xbox probably wasn't the best platform for it due to the demographic of xbox owners. He specifically said ' the TJ&E games have always been for younger gamers, so it probably would have done better on gamecube. Gamecube also has a smaller selection of games so in some cases I could see games like sega GT selling better on gamecube since it has almost zero racing games. On xbox it has good racers to compete with.

They are a good group of guys, and he's going to send me the design doc for the new game they are working on just to get my opinion. Stuff like that is always nice.

Thats a shame, Sonic Adventure 2 is one of the worst games I have played in my life, and its the top seller?

Beachspikers deserved better.

"I also wouldn't say it was heavily advertised. None of segas games except NFL2k3 have been heavily advertised."

is that why I still see PDO spots on TV at least 2-3 times every single day?

It's pretty easy to see why Sega doesn't do well on Xbox. Their non-sports games simply don't match the demographic group of Xbox. Rail shooters like PDO and HotD simply don't compare to the multiplayer appeal of a "Halo" or "MechAssault" for most Xbox gamers. TJE3 is a total mismatch with Xbox. (Not to mention it sucks)

He specifically said ' the TJ&E games have always been for younger gamers, so it probably would have done better on gamecube.

Were they forced into making it on XBOX by MS ?

I enjoyed the game very much, and I'm still working on getting all the emblems (174/180, damn these last few are annoying).

your right, it is, I enjoyed the first Sonic Adventure demo, and never got the second on my DC, went ahead and tried it on GC and just hated it.

I just think Sonic was much better in its 2d Days

I saw the Panzer Dragoon television comercial many times.

Those numbers on the X-Box are terrible. Sega is one of the few AAA game makers on the X-Box platform, and they still can't even get decent sales. It looks like it will be hard for Sega to ever recover to its former glory.

I think they have some good games, but sadly the sales aren't good.

well, in all Honesty, PDO would not have sold any better on any platform, its a AAA game to people who like rail shooters, but they arent the most popular games on the planet, I personally cant stand them, I got into Rogue Leader, but without the Starwars Nostalgia, I probally would not have touched it.

I think being the Niche title that it is, PDO didnt really sell badly.

source?

WHat is your source for this info? I can see right off the bat that JSRF and Shenmue II are not in that list. anyone notice anything else missing?

I wish sega would develop for just one system. I hate having to get used to so many controllers .
