PS3: New Fatal Inertia shots

Compared to the self-confessed CG, maybe. It looks improved compared to the realtime demo, though the video of that is very small.

The shots are mixed. Hopefully their focus will come across better in motion.

There's no need to damage control this - it looks crap.

I was really hoping for the end of "jaggies" this gen but most XBOX 360 games don't have AA and it looks like PS3 games may follow suit.

It's not damage control. With the suggestion of deception on Koei's part, I'm just pointing out that Koei showed realtime stuff previously also, not just the CG, and there was as big a gap back then if not bigger.

Anyway, it's Koei. This is their Canadian studio's first game. Certainly it could be a lot better, but it could also be a lot worse, particularly given their usual position in the "technical competency" pecking order.

This has NO AA, Zero AF, Low-Polygon counts and low-res textures. Titanio you say the shots are "mixed"? I don't get it. This looks pathetic for a next-gen title.

I wouldn't say it has no AF. There is some filtering going on there, it could be better perhaps, but it could be a lot lot worse.

The average standard may not be good, but the shots are still mixed. Some look better than others. The car close-ups, for example this: http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/703/703919/fatal-inertia-20060501100408697.jpg or this: http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/749/749967/img_3558744.html look better. Even this looks marginally better: http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/703/703919/fatal-inertia-20060501100416291.jpg. I'm not saying these look good, per se, just better than the others relatively speaking.

*blink*

The cracks in the ground look sharp and detailed toward the screen, yet look blurry and unrefined as you approach the yellow hover car.

Thats not and i quote "a few feet from the screen"

And nearly twice the resolution, better texture's, bigger draw distance, more poly's, better physic's...need i go on?

This looks like dog poo. Along with the rest of Koei's offerings.

If there was no filtering, or bilinear at least, it'd be a lot blurrier than that, and a lot closer to the camera, I think.

Compare the distances and blurriness of that with something like this:

Not a perfect comparison, but it should illustrate how much worse it could be. I'm sure you'll see PS3 games with worse, btw.

This game looks horrible, granted we will know soon enough at E3. If any game I've seen needs the extra development time it's this one although I never thought the game looked that great in the first place.

This is a MASSIVE downgrade from what they showed earlier :???:
...

Well the ships got a big upgrade:
New:
http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/703/703919/fatal-inertia-20060501100408697.jpg

Old:
http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/651/651351/fatal-inertia-20050916002156978.jpg

And the only real thing that the old shots had was motion blur and heat effects in every single shot. They're not exactly missing from the current set though:

Motion blur:
http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/703/703919/fatal-inertia-20060501100413103.jpg

Heat:
http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/703/703919/fatal-inertia-20060501100415166.jpg

I certainly don't think the game looks great, but it didn't seem all that hot before either. I just don't see what this 'massive downgrade' talk is based on. As with all racing games, it's probably best to wait until we see it in motion first.

This game looks pretty much exactly the same as before only as some people mentioned, minus heat and motion blur...
