Revolution is officially called...*drumroll*

And it'll never get bought for presents.
"Hello little Jonny. What do want for Christmas?"
"I want a wii"
"Well quick, go! The toilet's just down the hall."
You'll ask for anything else just to save the embarrassment!

No, not that yellow, that other thing there.

Hey now, you've seen the colors available - don't think that you won't be able to get a Wii in yellow if you want one!

Ooooh, does this mean we can look forward to adds like:

"I'm feeling happy and gay now that I have my Nintendo Wii"?

Also, if you buy 2 of them and have to take them to a friends house, does that mean you have to take a Wii Wii?

This is even worse than the boomerang controller. I can't imaging a large portion of the teen to 30's males are gong to want to rush right out to get a "Whee!"

Ok, I am so calling it just the Nintendo. Just like I used to do with my original NES.
Why couldn't they have called it the Punctual Extreme Extrasensory Nintendo Entertainment System or something?

Why do you think they bothered to announce this now instead of at E3?

I guess someone had the foresight to anticipate the press reaction on premises, and they wanted everyone to be braced in advance to minimize laughter. That's my honest best-case reasoning.

@One: Ok so not even Japan! It's just a terrible name all around then.

Well, there's a precedent in name changing, on Nintendo's part...

The western name of the Nintendo 64 was to be Ultra 64. Yet they did change it.

Because they don't want a lame name overshadowing what might actually be some good games. It's like they know it's a stupid name and yet still use it.

I think you and XBD hit it on the head. Disastrous.

Doesnt 'wee' also have the connotation of 'small/insignificant' in the UK?

This is a smoke screen to announce the Nintendo Go at E3. There, i said it.

Except Ultra 64 was better! Going by that it might just get worse. =\

Maybe they'll just change it to Pii instead.

Yeah, but only because someone in one of the territories had already trademarked something similar or identical. That's the only reason they changed it, so as to keep continuity across all territories they marketed the system in.

I hope they make a change as I don't think this name does them or their new system any good...at least, in the short term. Certainly, it's going to be the butt of a lot of jokes.

Actually the global name was originally intended to be Ultra 64; they changed it due to a potential trademark infringement.

Doubt they'll have any problems with Wii... unlike my grandpa. :(

They must have taken a cure from "Viiv", no?
