Metroid Prime Sequel In Development!

Interesting to hear the multiplayer info. Sounds like someone at Retro is listening to people. I could personally care less about multiplay in Metroid but I'll bet they include the Turok Style control setup in the sequel.

Gah! Hands on fire!

Turok Evolution's jump "control" is annoying.

Turok controls suck. But I agree, they should atleast include the option, even if only for the purpose of whine-reduction.

but then, those who choose Turok controls will inevitable complain about having to jump.

Way to go Retro. After all you guys had been through who'd though your first game would be a million seller, possibly GOTY (already is to many sites and press, mags) and from now on mentioned in "Best game ever" discussions? Congrats! Now to get to work on Metroid Next.

Metroid sequel in the works? You don't say!!

As for the nominations. Noticed that the two games with the most Nominations are Metroid Prime and Animal Crossing. I can understand why MP got the most, but Animal Crossing with the second most? AC has got to be the Sleeper Hit of the Year!!!

Please don't wear out th' Metroid franchise, Nintendo!

Please make MP2 at least as good as MP1, Retro! Don't mess with the formula too much, guys!

For the love of God, don't make it timed (like Majora's Mask, but with Samus) ... That wouldn't be too good.

BTW, R&C and ED = candidates for Console GOTY? I can't say I disagree that much.. but IMHO there were better games released this year. Super Mario Sunshine > R&C, and there were at least a handful of games better than ED.. at least.

I was semi-disappointed with ED. It's a solid game, prolly a 9/10 effort. Not the 9.6 that IGN gave it, though.

Blade - At the end of the first metroid you have what 2 mins to escape after killing motherbrain. So some time limits would work.

I hope they didnt listen to everyone, if they change the controls, they will screw up the jump and shoot Metroid feel to the game, I know a lot of people griped, but those people havent had to do many jump puzzles on console shooters.

Nintendo has a habit of not listening to customers so I wouldn't worry much ;)

They just need to add the option to configure the controls so people won't whine as much.

They also need to make the game more complex, like instead of having grapple points, let you grapple on almost everything (except certain types of objects)

Also, PUT IN SOME GOD DAMN BUMP MAPPING, or at least change the chestplate texture on Samus.

Bumpmapping? MP is beautiful without it. Transperancies. Particle Effects, but yes I'm sure there will be loads of BM and other effects in the sequel. And yes the chestplate and ship textures will be redone. But fyi, the black/red Phazon suit kicked every other previous videogame characters' outfits asses.

Just thought of Rachel Roberts playing Samus in Metroid The Movie. She was incredible in Simone. And a dead ringer for Samus.

Jvd: Yep yep. That's as far as I'd like them to go, though. No need to rush us through an experience like that..

... hopefully they will improove on Metroid Prime strneghts ( texture variety... each room was so unique... and had tons of different textures. not the same one tiled over and over... do not mess with this Retro... I do not think they will as killing the atmosphere will kill MP 2 )...

I hope they have bumpmapping but more importantly, more real time lighting. IGN has a movie from the SpaceWorld build that features a room on the ship with flickering lights, lighted steam and more. Its truly stunning, even today. I'd like to see lots more of that. Even if it means knocking the framerate down to 30fps. MP isn't a twitch based shooter that demands the precision of 60fps and the lock-on feature only lessens this need further. I think a smooth 30fps is a small price to pay for a game that could be even more atmospheric.

If you want to see what I'm talking about, the movie is on IGN's MP media section and called Metroid Prime real-time footage (10 seconds). Its only 2MB.

It even looks as if the mapped lighting in the main Chozo Ruins area was in real time at this point as well. It also shows what Samus' arm cannon used to look like. :)
