Nice look

King-Kong looks very nice but maybe if developed only for Xbox360 with full hardware dev-kit it will be much better, no? I am very excited about second gen games for xbox360 and PS3.

How did they get 1280x720 shots from X-box? I guess it is just re-scaled image from 800x480.

I think it is not fair to judge the quality of x-box image from that shot. Although it is quite obvious that x-box has a lot less detailed textures, I do not think object boundaries would look that bad on screen.

Well XBOX1 is capable of 720p, it's possible that Kong supports it. Also, most edges on XBOX1 do look that bad on my HDTV, are you're judging it based on viewing with a SDTV?

Here you can see the same X360 shot, scaled down, and it looks superb. Below it the XBOX:

Heh, obviously when you put them side by side, even the bestest looking Xbox game will look poor compared to a decent X360 game.

Still, it's not the PS1 to PS2 difference everyone was hoping for. But then again, King Kong is hardly the game to base our opinions on.

I bet in motion(lighting) the difference is much bigger than we can tell from a scaled screenshot.

For a cross-generational port though it's a job well done I would say. It looks much much better than the PC version at high resolutions.

Look at Kameo, GOW or PGR3 if you want to see a true generational leap, there's plenty of examples...

Resembles the difference between XBOX and PS2.

If you look at the screenshots, the XBOX, PS2 and PC version are all the same, crappy textures with low poly's. For example all 3 versions, including PC have that crappy little fire pit with blurry ground textures, and cheezy fire.

The XBOX360 version is totally overhauled compared to the other 3 versions, so take that for what it is.

I didn't know that Xbox is capable of 720p. My judging was based on SDTV. However, if they are using same textures, poly-count for both 480p and 720p on Xbox, it is really obvious that the game on a large 720p screen would not look as good as it is on a 480p small screen.

Btw, from these shots, the difference is night and day. And, I agree that the conversion for Xb360 is very good for a multi-platform title.

However, I would have expected a similar quality for PC port. At least, for high-end machines. I mean they already have the high quality art for xb360 port. Would it be really hard to implement a render path for high-end machines that can use this HQ art?

I remember reading an article about how Peter Jackson had a lot of input into this game and was specifically against EA getting the publishing/developing rights for it because of his disappointment with the LotR games. That thought makes me interested in trying it out. Although not truly next gen looking if it's fun to play I would be happy to buy it.

I also wouldn't mind having a King Kong Ding Dong Sing Song burger.

Slightly OT, but did you see 1up's most recent X360 video? They showed a bunch of NFS Most Wanted on the X360 then the editors opined that the Xbox version doesn't look that much worse. I suppose in support of the comment they played a bit of the Xbox footage. Now, I don't hold NFSMW as the best looking X360 title so far, but even the adjacent footage was enough to show big differences. The texture res was WAY higher, the lighting was much fuller and the aliasing was almost gone. I don't think the video supported their claim nearly as much as they wanted it to.

I did watch that video, I thought the difference was quite noticeable but at the same time it still looked much less photorealistic than PGR3, so to me I was pretty unimpressed by that footage. Though to be fair it was pretty low res, and the screenshots I've seen so far for NFS are very very nice...

p.s. Did you lift my ban yet?? :p

On a side note, it seems that this game is rather good, I just read a review in Finnish games magazine and they praised it to no end.
