anyone here from new york/new jersey?

rusty

Regular
i'm on an internship with bmw in woodcliff lake new jersey (near manhattan, NY) and was wondering if anyone was from the area.

I've been here two weeks and have been around most of manhattan and central park etc, but not done much else (been working afterall) but i've got a couple of spare weekends left and wondered if anyone could recommend some things i should do before i leave, places to go out etc.

cheers if anyone can help!

I don't know much about ny . Don't really like the city . Go up state more . But i do know alot around jersey to do .... which is nothing haha . No seriously if you need anything let mek now , i'm in the paramus area . Its 10 mins from the gw bridge and 15 from the lincon tunnel

cheers guys..

JVD you around paramus? that's where garden state plaza is right? i'm staying in ridgewood, so about 10 or 15 mins up route 17 from paramus if i'm thinking of the right place... which i might well not be.

thinking i might try and get down the jersey beaches this weekend, but not sure where exactly!

you ever been to atlantic city? what's it like?

Allow me to interrupt...:)

Yes, Paramus / Garden State plaza is correct. (Intersection of 4 and 17).

I haven't been to Atlantic City in a while, but unless you plan on doing some gambling I wouldn't really bother. (Though just going through some of the casinos is kinda cool...) It's not as "fun" a place as Vegas in terms of stuff to do other than gambling.

If you're interested in going to the beach just for the sunbathing and ocean, any of them are pretty good, from Lavalette / Seaside heights all the way down south to Cape May. WildWood (way down south) has an impressive carnival / boardwalk (if a bit expensive) if you like some thrill rides and some good junk food at night. :) Cape May is a nice "quaint" victorian bed and breakfast community which is great if you have a girlfriend going with you.

Asbury park is supposedly making a comeback, but I'm not sure it's there yet, so I'd avoid that. ;)

If you go to the beaches: see if you can leave on Friday morning, or VERY early Saturday morning. Otherwise, you'll get killed by traffic on the Parkway.

yeah i was told that i should either leave very late friday eve/night or very early sat morning...

thanks for the advice - as regards atlantic city i'm not much of a gambler so guess i'll give it a miss, i plan to go to vegas next year anyway with a big group of friends (much more fun than tootling along on my own!) money permitting of course.

I'm actually in hasbrouck heights which is 2 mins down route 17 from the plaza . I just say paramus as more pople know of it . Ridgewood is very nice . My uncle used to live there for awhile .

Belmar is nice , its has alot of hot girls mostly college girls with some highschool girls trying ot act older .

Seaside heights i wouldn't recommend for the day . The boardwalk is okay but its very low class . Lots of teenagers walking the boardwalk as its basicly a carnival board walk with games and rides . However the surrounding area's are nice . Lavelette (sp? ) is very very nice .

We go to ac often. I have some friends that live around there like brigateene (sp ? ) . Its not really a beach place. Yes there is the beach but its basicly vegas on a beach. If you do go there pick a casino and sign up and stay with that casino . That way u will get free rooms

I would recommend going to belmar , lavelette or long beach island then driving to alantic city for the evening for gambling . If you go to lavelette seaside is only a few mins away .

Unless he is a parent and is bringing kids i wouldn't recommend it . Its more of a family area and very expensive . Its like a high class seaside .

Only where they have the concerts are nice . There are a few good blocks after that its horrible. I was there a few weeks ago for a local concert.

I recommend taking a friday off and leaving thursday evening . Anyway take the turnpike to exit 11 or 10 . I forget which one off the top of my head but u can then jump onto the parkway from there cutting off a good 45 mins of your drive .

Yup...though sometimes "people watching" is half the fun. :) More fun when you're with someone though.

Yes, belmar is a good choice for a "day at the beach."

I was at Wildwood a couple weekends ago...with the kids (and my brother and his kids.) Kids definitely love it. (Beach during the day, rides at night.) I'll have to post some pics. :)

I was there a few weeks ago for a local concert.

I went to the Stone Pony about 10 years ago to see a local concert (was renting a house in Belmar with a bunch of work friends that summer). What an absolute hole Asbury park was then...still is?

uni girls sounds like my kind of beach....... hmmmm

anyone want to come and chuck a ball around - always wanted to try the scene out of american pie ;)

LOL

right, well belmar sounds promising then, question is this week or next week - the weather doesn't look like it's going to be "all that" this weekend (they say it'll be nice ish, but clouds don't make for a good day at the beach.)

edit:

jvd, could you elaborate a bit on this?
If you do go there pick a casino and sign up and stay with that casino . That way u will get free rooms

free room? how does that work exactly - i wouldn't want to roll up and find that i got stuffed with a huge room bill (poor student here!) just to have somewhere to sleep, or worse find that they are fully booked etc... sounds like it could be a plan for my last weekend here (aug 13/14).

turns out a couple of guys i met in engineering have a friend with a beach house at belmar... so we're going to go there then probably go down to atlantic city in the evening.

should be a good weekend!

.
Sure like the time i was trying to win my little cousin an xbox game and we saw someone get stabed

Pretty much haha

You don't get it that day . U get a card that u use when u gamble . You put it in the slot or give it to the pit crew . They track how much u spend and then give u comp dollars . Sam and I go to harrahs and use the same card . Last month i had a free room (god its nice to have a gf and a free room at a nice casino hehe :devilish: ) and a 70$ dinner at thier resturant . Really good stuff .

Depending on how long your here for its good to pick one up . It also never goes bad
