The PC heavyweight FPS cards have been played and FWIW, EDGE gave Half-life2 a 10/10! Earlier they gave Doom3 a dissapointing 7/10.

It's rare for EDGE to give a 10/10. IIRC, the last 10/10 was for Halo. Others have been Mario 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Grand Turismo and the original Half-Life. There may have been others but I can't think of them! :?

...This is the most exquisitely crafted action game of all time.

Half-Life 2 is a firstperson shooter. But in action, storytelling, technical achievment, atmosphere and intensity it has far outdone it's peers. Valve just hit the top note no other PC game developer could reach. 10 "

So, the console FPS heavyweights have alot to live upto as HL2 seems to be the new benchmark FPS. Will KillZone, Halo2 and Metroid Prime2 live upto that standard? Seems like 2004 is the year of the FPS! 8)

Halo2 will undoubtedly be very different from HL2 - they've probably concentrated on refining and polishing the core shooter experience. More interesting weapons plus dual wielding, better AI with more tactics, some refinement on the shield system etc. But ask anyone about Half-Life and they'll certainly not say that the fighting is the best part of it. So it's kinda useless to try to compare the two games, IMHO.

Interesting. Not that a 10/10 for HL2 means that much, except that they think it surpasses Halo.

Sure, it's not exactly an oranges to oranges comparison...more like a 'satsuma' to 'tangerine' comparison, as they fall under the FPS genre! :p

Interestingly, EDGE were raving about the physics engine and how that as pushed the genre forward...

...Finally we have a game in which physics are more than just an excuse for ragdoll deaths...
...Tearing a radiator from a wall and using it to swat a parasitic headcrab, while all the furniture in a room goes tumbling around you, is truly a gaming epiphany...

Of course top end PC's would have superior graphics than the console FPS counterparts (they also mention that the lighting is not as good as Doom3's), the AI's should all be upto scratch on all these FPS's and they should provide their own signature fighting styles but I don't think the others could handle the level of physics present in HL2's Source engine and how it is applied to gameplay.

The proof is in the pudding and it will be an interesting desert when they all finally arrive...not long now! :devilish:
