Nvidia Lies All the Time

Actualy i do, but i don't trust ATI that much either.

All i'm saying is that people are so quick to jump to the conclusion that
the hardware is borked when we don't know for sure. Maybe it's just
not quite as good as they hoped and they are trying to fix it.

IT might be broken, sucks to be nvidia if we find out it is.

Truform works on R3xx. It has a pretty big performance hit because there's no dedicated hardware for it, but it's still functional and usable.

And ATI's ASHLI software lets you compile shaders of unlimited length on DX9 hardware by breaking long shaders up into multiple passes, which was the main advertised benefit of the F-buffer. Not sure if it's taking advantage of any special hardware or not, but the end result is the same.

On the other hand, the NV40 simply can't seem to do a lot of the stuff Nvidia was claiming as features of its VPE. I'd say a closer parallel would be the S3 Savage 2000's T&L support, or Matrox's displacement mapping - neither of which ever worked as advertised.
