REALISTIC SHADOWS!!

p3_12.jpg

And a sneak peek to self-shadowing!:

self_shadow.gif

Why is it that 90% of GC screenshots are always so small you never get a clear idea of what the game actually looks like?? Why can't Nintendo push the publishers to lie like every other self-respecting console manufacturer out there, and get them to release 1600x1200+32xAA screenshots?

thexy :D

that water monster is

The fifth shot looks quite...cinema quality! 8)

So does the game run at that gif animation framerate to get self-soft-shadowing ?

*wishes hopelessly that this would come out on the box*

This game is widescreen 480p right?...right?

Not to be picky or anything, the game looks fantastic, but what's wrong with the characters skin? Looks funny...

shhh maybe this is a spoiler but I think the real secret is it turns out everyone is a zombie including the main characters which you find out at the end ;)

Everyone turns out to be normal, the real monster is the main character? Nah that would be worthy of a Silent hill game... :D

Anyone else thinks the game has taken a graphics hit, from previous screens?

edit: nevermind, I think it's just starting to look dated.

Actually, I think there are several subtle improvements to the graphics in this version. The only thing that looks kind of bad is that the water is so clear and non-reflective in that shot with the lake monster. It is chepaer performance wise to do it that way, but it doesn't look very good. That new shot of the huge zombie guy and the mines or whatever it is in the canyon look top notch though.

Some things seem to be taken directly from the REmake, like the fire and the water. It's not reflective, but refractive; I just hope it has the same physiscs that the REmake's

Widescreen? Yes! Progressive? Not sure...

The Famitsu BH4 demo supports progressive, but play in letter box mode (black bar at top and bottom), options inaccessible at the moment.

The following link contains 8 video of my first time playing the demo, but I was playing rather badly (I am only getting familiar with the control scheme)

Weren't people initially comparing this to SH4? FOR SHAME! ;)

Art style is different, scale of the environment is different, main character detail comparable in cut-scenes, SH4 use lower detail models for in-game, RE4 seems to be using the same model (you can only see his back when moving so not sure about it).

Cut-scene animation comparable, but in-game animation RE4 is better. Although the colission detection still needs to be improved (you can see half of Leon's body pass through the side walls when he jumped out of the window in one of the video).

Texture detail on the environment is not bad on SH4, but scattered, some are quite low res while some are not (but the low res ones stand out somehow). PS2 has dithering in dark shades, PC version does not.

SH4 do not have much characters on screen at once, RE4 has much more (the countless damn crazy villagers). SH4 on PS2 will slow down a little bit when there are more than 6 characters on screen (I experienced that with 5 patients and Henry and Eileen).

For movement control, both are a bit sluggish, SH4 is quite confusing sometimes (I want the SH3 3D control back), RE4 is a 3rd person view on FPS controls, RE4 seriously needs strafe or dodge or roll sideway. You cannot move while aiming and that makes it harder to fight when you are surrounded.
