It looks like a real satellite pic that's had the Earth "removed" from underneath it, to be replaced with a CG-rendered picture of the Earth (which I guess goes some way to keep those pesky graphic artists from wandering the streets aimlessly!)

Yeah, I think it's computer enhanced from the satellite orginal. For instance, check this satellite photo of HurricaneIsobel and you'll see what the orginals probably look like.
