Right now the price on the $399 board is $130. A website mistake on Best Buy's part.

But a friend of mine just ordered 3 for that price. His online receipt says $140 per board total.

Was that a mistake on his part? I mean, Best Buy wouldn't actually make a mistake like this and let him get away with hundreds of dollars.. right?

Going on past experience they'll either

1. Cancel his order

or

2. Honor it.

I suspect #1 based on the widespread attention this has recieved.

Most likely they'll cancel the order.

E&OE (Errors & Ommissions Excepted), a very useful abbrievation on any site that sells stuff.

Ahh...but an order confirmation is a binding contract regardless of T&Cs...most consumers don't know this.

Unless of course you've agreed (implicitly or otherwise) to special terms and agreements which ALL of these online retailers have (check the fine print and legalese).

Uh...that's what T&Cs (terms and conditions) are. T&Cs are posturing and rarely enforceable, especially with regard to pricing changes. (At least that's what a very high powered attorney told me ).

well, so far they havent cancelled my order or changed the price
when i view my order status its still showing the original price

While I have little doubt that they'll cancel our orders, it's still a little exciting waiting for the notice.

well, they havent cancelled mine yet
they have billed my credit card already
and my order status still says $140

Well I got my expected cancellation email this evening...which I promptly forwarded to the attorney who says it won't hold up. Nice having some big shot lawyers in the family.

I'm working on it!
I probably won't know anything for a week or two (the wheels of justice...), but the contracts folks see that kind of unilateral price changing as a totally bogus front - order acceptance constitutes and enforceable contract.

When I hear anything I will post.

I know the laws are different, but a similar thing happened in the UK over Kodak incorrectly pricing a digital camera in the online store. In this case if came out as a positive for the consumer.

(BTW - the sotry was carried in the UK press and also on the national consumer TV show 'Watchdog')

Bumpity Bump. Any news Mize...that 30 buckeroos is pretty tempting, but a long shot at a cheap Ti4600 is even more so.
