GlobalFoundries sues IBM [2021-06]

^^ I think it has more to do with the corporation counter-sueing practices than paying tribute to some stereotype one may have about arabs

either way, it will be interesting to watch for the result. The truth is IBM paid GloFo a lot of money for something they never got (plus they got a lot of patents and engineers too). Looking back at the history GloFo´s last good process was 32nm SOI then they pulled mediocre 28bulk process, in-house 14nm XM Fin-Fet development went wrong badly so GloFo has licensed the process from Samsung followed with 12nm Fin-Fet update and that´s it. Even with that extra money and engineering backup GloFo weren´t able to deliver 7nm process in time, not to mention AMD troubles with them. DUNNO why it took IBM two years to file lawsuit ... perhaps it´s right-time strategy as GlobalFoundries, getting ready to file an initial public offering this year on a stock market in the United States.

there are an articles analysing story and reasons behind:

Yep the timing screams IPO blackmail.
GF choosed not to implement 7nm. They had a license from Samsung but they would have had to close a fab to upgrade it. They decided it was not worth it.
