Capturing screenshots in HDR games? *spawn*

rumors say that the new Shadow Play in the next driver update is going to include the capability of recording native HDR output, so you can upload your video to youtube in HDR mode! That's going to be cool to show the capabilities of your display.

one of the best scenes to compare HDR to non HDR.

Lion King scene with HDR on. (play on Chrome, Edge, Vivaldi, Opera or any HDR compatible browser)

Same Lion King scene, without HDR.

https://www.techfeeddata.com/operat...sider-preview-21354-1-co_release-210402-1630/ new Windows 10 insider preview version adds info about your certified HDR display.

Could this be the beginning of the end for HDR10+ and the start of Dolby Vision domination?

We will be rolling out this feature over time and are starting with select Dolby Vision and VESA DisplayHDR models, so please don’t be alarmed if in the Advanced display settings, you see that your display has no HDR certification even though it is certified.

Good lord. That was kind of eerie to watch. None of the charm of the original, probably thanks to photorealistic but expressionless animals coupled with a vandalised colour palette and a wish.com rendition of The Circle of Life.

^^ the HDR one looks really weird to me. The environment looks way more realistic than the animals. The tone (contrast?) also different. the SDR-one is flatter (less contrasty)

even when watching both of them in SDR, the HDR one looks more contrasty (but then it also loss more details due to the mapping into SDR it seems)

Crazy stuff. 32" 4k 144Hz 1400 nits HDR, 23976:1 contrast in HDR mode. Also asks for a deep pocket.

some beauty HDR captures I've taken with Gamebar, with SpecialK or AutoHDR.

In original .jxr format. (recommended to use HDR + WCG Image Viewer (Windows 10 Store, safe, and gret app) to visualize them.

Resident Evil 2 Remake. Probably my best screengrab ever, I use it as my desktop's background image. I took it the other day in HDR mode, but gotta share it on SDR 'cos I find it beautiful to show here. Realtime capture.

probably the best tips I've read on how to calibrate HDR in this particular game -wish other games had a calibration tool like Doom Eternal-.

It led me to one of the most massive improvements in image quality I've experienced, the change in Doom Eternal from SDR to HDR is a sight to behold even on a mediocre 3 years old HDR monitor -519 nits- like mine.

How to calibrate HDR? :: DOOM Eternal General Discussions (steamcommunity.com)

Do your calibration from the main menu settings, not from in game menu.

1) Begin by adjusting your White Point until the flame on the building looks like flame and not just color.
2) Then, bring you Min Stops up until the shadows on the left have depth and volume.
3) Then, bring your Max Stops down until the lights pop but don't have that old CRT like color bleed (you know how old TVs have that "sheen" of reds and lights, if you start to see that you've gone too far down)
4) Now adjust your saturation to make the colors vibrant to taste.
5) Finally, adjust your HDR Brightness to suit.

Once you've got an image that looks balanced TO YOU (this is key, if it looks good to you that's what matters)
