GPU Ray Tracing Performance Comparisons [2021-2022]

That's not as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe next gen things will get closer.

Its a bloodbath. Would be academically interesting to see how both 1st gen RT attempts compare with each others (6900xt vs 2080ti).

I'd say the 2080Ti would have a lead due to DLSS.
But then again using all 4 RT effects at the same time in Cyberpunk 2077 is the most demanding settings of any game so far, so AMD's "RT-light" solution get punished hard as opposed to games only using one RT effect (most often shadows or reflection, the cheapest RT effects).

Those are Medium RT tests, with Ultra RT NVIDIA cards are 80% faster.
I think at Medium settings there is only RT shadows and some RT lighting, no reflections. So the divergences makes sense.
As you can see in the table above, you're looking at a pretty significant drop in performance from the Ultra preset to the Ray Tracing Medium preset in-game. There are no ray-traced reflections at this grade, only shadows and 'medium' lighting, but even so it's tough going for even the top RDNA 2 card.

Was the psycho settings tested?
No, just Ultra settings, Psycho is even more brutal.

NVIDIA's lead varies from 60% to 80% on Ultra and that's without DLSS2. Psycho settings is even higher and more brutal.

On another note, Tencent developers just outlined the challenges they face when applying RT to their new 3rd person shooter game, Synced Off Planet. It's an interesting read.

A very well put together video comparing RT performance between 3080 and 6800XT in several RT titles.

Minecraft:
2K: 3080 is 230% faster
4K: 3080 is 240% faster

Control:
2K: 3080 is 53% faster
4K: 3080 is 72% faster

Call Of Duty Black Ops:
2K: 3080 is 58% faster
4K: 3080 is 63% faster

Watch Dogs Legion:
2K: 3080 is 36% faster
4K: 3080 is 50% faster

Battlefield V:
2K: 3080 is 46% faster
4K: 3080 is 56% faster

Metro Exodus:
2K: 3080 is 26% faster
4K: 3080 is 34% faster

Shadow Of Tomb Raider:
2K: 3080 is 43% faster
4K: 3080 is 44% faster

Godfall:
2K: 6800XT is 4% faster
4K: 6800XT is 5% faster

Interestingly, Metro Exodus shows the least difference between NVIDIA and AMD, I am curious whether that will remain the case once the new updated Metro Exodus with it's multiple RT effects gets released. We also have Godfall with it's minimalistic approach to screen space RT shadows being virtually a wash.

45 game benchmark 6700XT vs 3070.

6700XT has no business costing over 400$. It's a complete reversal of the status quo of the last 8 years. You now have a much better chance of a notably better experience on the Nvidia GPU, when not CPU limited.
Err, what? It's a lot closer to competitors $500 product than their $400 product, how on earth doesn't it have business costing over $400? o_O
