Nvidia giving free GPU samples to reviewers that follow procedure

Nvidia has no obligation to give reviewers free anything but it’s not like HWUB is being that negative, they’re just not touting Nvidia’s advantages as much as Nvidia would like. GN hit the nail on the head when they said the worst part of this is that any site that does actually give RT and DLSS a fair shake will do so under a cloud of suspicion.

But HBU did this with the 6800XT review. Here is the final verdict from the review:

Especially the point about the "mature raytracing support and DLSS 2.0" which HBU claims are "questionable features" and "not mayor selling points". Why should nVidia work with them further when this site doesnt care about nVidia specific advantages?

With WoW, Cold War and Cyberpunk three of the biggest PC games this year have Raytracing and DLSS (2 of them) support. As a reviewer you should not allow your own bias impact a comparision.

How did you concluded they do not care?

Also we shouldn't allow own bias to choose what are the biggest games.
Also we should ask when do the "biggest" games form a proper benchmark suite.

He said it loud and clear. "Go buy a 6800XT because today there arent enough games with Raytracing and especially DLSS support."

Ehm, WoW broke the first day record two weeks ago and Cyberpunk two days ago. Call of Duty is always a huge game on the PC plattform. Do we need to talk about the difference between "huge games" and "Godfall"?

At maxed out settings including DXR “Psycho”.

Without DLSS.

The amount of grifting done here for Nvidia in this thread, and elsewhere online, is disgusting.

There is only one reason for some to participate in a pc graphics processing unit discussion, just look. Its an eye opener.

Didn't Asrock blacklist HU a few months ago?

With the way their going, they will probably get blacklisted ever so more.

Seriously, seeing what RT is doing now, and how performant it is, in special in combination with DLSS, thats an impressive feat.
Even the PS5 has gotten (subtle) RT. Here is a list of games on consoles that have it.

https://www.pocket-lint.com/games/n...ng-list-which-next-gen-games-have-ray-tracing

The pc versions of those have RT too.

No idea why some are against ray tracing, but by doing so, your going against your own platform.
Most impressive game graphics ever to date (CP2077) achieves its graphical awe by RT solutions (see LTTs review).

What an absurd proposition. They're a small independent team of reviewers, not a corporation with interns and thousands of man hours to spare, and nor do they have a time machine.

Properly investigating ray tracing is not an absurd proposition. It's the most transformative and performance hungry process to come to games in years, and it's massively relevant to these cards.

In the time span of one month they had to review: AMD Ryzen 5000 series, Intel Tiger Lake, Nvidia RTX 3080, Nvidia RTX 3090, Nvidia RTX 3070, RTX 3000 AIB partner models, AMD RX 6800 XT, AMD RX 6800, AMD RX 6900 XT, RX 6000 AIB partner models, and Cyberpank 2077.

They had to make a choice: cover RTX and DLSS in depth and avoid making accurate comparisons between Ampere and Navi 2nd gen; or match up Ampere and Navi 2nd gen in head to head comparisons. In an ideal world, sure, you would cover both. But that is physically and economically not possible.

Oh well. Looks like they're going to have more time on their hands now.

Simply saying "too bad, they should've done their job" is immature and delusional, and reeks of privilege.

"Privilege".

Consoles with RT hardware just came out. As RT implementations improve -- which will happen once game devs adopt RT as a norm -- such that they don't tank performance for negligible gains in image quality, HUB and Gamers Nexus will switch to RT implementations being standard.

Seriously, this whole situation is as stupid as demanding all reviews to focus on DX10 upon the release of Nvidia 8800 GTX and ATI 2900 XT. No one cared about DX10 games, and the implementation of DX10 games sucked, for a good 6-12 months.

These cards will be on sale for 3 or 4 years, and these reviews will stay online indefinitely. Mostly ignoring ray tracing is insane.

The sense of entitlement from YouTubers regarding their 'lite' reviews is both funny and a little depressing.

It all boils down to this;
Does nVidia have a right to free marketing from their reviewers that get free cards?

If your answer is no;
nVidia wanting an editorial direction change in order for Hardware Unboxed to receive these cards again in the future, does not strike you at all as nVidia extorting free marketing from their reviewers....?

If your answer is yes;
If only the ones that give positive reviews are allowed to get the products on time, you're never going to get honest reviews, and that defeats the whole purpose of reviews in the first place.

All the other arguments, whether RT is a good enough feature, whether RT is prevalent enough, whether Hardware Unboxed deserves free cards, or anything else not related to the above, are distractions to the real issue.

The fact you're even suggesting that question blows my mind. Not even the Nvidia subreddit, with far less technical standards, suggests what pharma and PSman are raving about. Nvidia should definitely consider enlisting them at this point

No, nVidia wrote that HBU doesnt care about Raytracing and DLSS enough and that it doesnt make sense to supply them with FE cards anymore.
That has come after HBU made it clear that they dont care about Raytracing and DLSS. nVidia has not enforced a change prior Ampere and even sampled them with Ampere cards.

I think most views are very one dimensional. Why should it be allow that reviewers can put out biased reviews and are entitled to get free samples for a lifetime?

The converse is problematic, providing favourable reviews in exchange for free samples and early access. Something the vast majority of people are against. I don't understand why you'd want a review that's pre-approved by a manufacturer anyway. Is this a proper gpu forum?

So you're saying that nVidia is allowed to dictate what reviewers say if they get free samples from them...

Companies should work on their product to get good reviews from critics. It should definitely not be the case that the critics have to adapt to appease companies. That defeats the whole purpose of reviews. If you cave in and fall in the second category, you're just a shill.

That doesnt make any sense. nVidia improved DLSS and improved their hardware for better raytracing performance. HBU claims that both things are "questionable features" and shouldnt be considered by the consumer when it comes to buying a new GPU.

What do you expect nVidia to do more? HBU has every right to ignore nVidia's advantages. But dont blame nVidia when they think it doesnt make sense to supply them anymore.

Do members over there also create alt accounts?

Nvidia quoted hardware unboxed to promote DLSS

No they spam the thread in defense of corporations and make accusations to compensate. At least I know who to avoid listening to in this forum. :)
