Nvidia's 3000 Series RTX GPU [3090s with different memory capacity]

NVIDIA seems to have finally finalized the specifications for its new enthusiast graphics card, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. In a tweet by Kopite7kimi, it is reported that NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is now being prepped as a direct competition to the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card, offering more memory and also much beefier specifications than the existing RTX 3080.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Reportedly Gets Huge Specs Boost, Same Cores as RTX 3090 With 20 GB VRAM To Tackle AMD's Radeon RX 6800 XT
It was recently reported that NVIDIA has started working on its GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards, both of which will be rocking the GA102 GPU core and offer faster GPU performance with their meaty specifications. There were also reports that the original designs for the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti were canceled since they weren't on par with the competition, prompting NVIDIA to go back to the drawing board and reassess the specs.

...

As for memory, the card will feature 20 GB of GDDR6X memory. Unlike the 19.5 Gbps speeds of the RTX 3090, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is said to retain the same memory speeds as the RTX 3080 at 19 Gbps.

There is no chance of them reducing any prices when they can't even meet 10% of the demand. Expect 3080TI at around 1200 USD.

Seems it has never been a better time to not be able to buy a new card.
If AMD doesn't suffer the same supply issues as Nvidia does, they instantly will grab a huge piece of the high end GPU market.

30xx series don't matter until you can buy one near msrp without waiting 8 weeks for restock...

On paper the 3080Ti looks nice, but I wonder if it will ever exist.

On paper it looks like it'll be even more bandwidth bound, which the 3080 is in some titles already, and more of a 6900 competitor than anything as it's bound to be more expensive than the 3080.

At least that "smallish performance boost for a lot more money" category will get more competitive than the 3090.

Ampere doesn't seem bandwidth bound though?

Not in most titles, no. But pushing up every resource but bandwidth should apply that to a few more titles.

I also suppose the lends credence to the idea that GDDR6x buses are really error prone. If you've got enough chips with full ALU functionality and etc. but with ones that need to cut the bus still, well I guess that speaks for itself.

One of my local Microcenters has 3060 Ti stock but it’s not great.

In germany, the Nvidia webshop seems to have a partnership with an e-tailer. They implemented some protection against bot-buyers, but the stock (however high or low it was) was gone in a matter of minutes and now it's sold out.

People keep assuming it's bots and scalpers but I feel they are way underestimating how strong the competition/interest is actually with actual buyers against each other.

Everyone knows what the situation is now. There isn't likely to be any discounts for quite some time given the demand situation, if anything if you miss the launch drop (especially FEs) you basically have to "overpay" for the AiB variants. Effectively buying later just means you're going to get worse value. The launch drop is really the only set drop time, future shipments are basically random.

At least anecdotally I'm seeing unprecedented interest in people just basically "camping" out at the launch times now (this includes multiple demo groups), which makes sense given the above factors.

Yeah there are lots of end users buying up stock but scalpers are in on it too. eBay is already flooded with 3060 Tis for $700 and up. Sickening.

At least you got something, like 3070 FE the 3060 Ti FEs were no-show in Finland.
