Positive cases to tests is around 6.25% and along with increase in CDC Expanded Cases numbers indicates the testing is too limited by still requiring a doctor's recommendation to get tested. There should be no CDC Expanded Cases if you're able to test.

Honestly, I'm surprised there are any new cases and tests given the likely mentality that everyone is putting things off because of the holiday weekend -- better to be at home possibly sick than to spend your weekend in the hospital.

Ohio did 8K tests for today's numbers which is under 40% of the over 22K a day target, with previous days at 3.3K, 3.6K, 5.5K, 4.9K, 6.5K, 5.2K, 4.3K, 4.9K, 5.5K, 8.1K, 7.0K, 8.2K, 12.2K, 8.1K, 5.4K, 7.1K, 8K, 7.4K, 12.7K, 10.3K, 7.8K, 7.2K, 7.5K, 10K, 9.4K, 8.6K, 8.6K.

Ohio's numbers today, Confirmed: 31,911 (up from 31,408 ), Hospitalized: 5,476 (up from 5,437 ), and Deaths: 1,969 (up from 1,956 ).

Confirmed Cuyahoga County: 3927 (up from 3851 ) ~ 1.97% increase.

As of 10:00 am May 24, 2020, DCHHS is reporting 178 additional positive cases of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total case count in Dallas County to 8,827, including 211 deaths.

The additional death being reported today includes:

  • A woman in her 70’s who was a resident of a long-term care facility in the City of Mesquite and expired in the facility.
Of cases requiring hospitalization who reported employment, over 80% have been critical infrastructure workers, with a broad range of affected occupational sectors, including: healthcare, transportation, food and agriculture, public works, finance, communications, clergy, first responders and other essential functions.

Of cases requiring hospitalization, two-thirds have been under 65 years of age, and about half do not have high-risk chronic health conditions. Diabetes has been an underlying high-risk health condition reported in about a third of all hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

Of the deaths reported to date, over a third have been associated with long-term care facilities.
 
Ohio's graphs are off, is the simplest explaination.

They use a different date for charting. Instead of giving the ability to chart by result Created Date or even Specimen Date , they chart by what seems to be User Specified Illness Onset Date. So the past week's worth of numbers are always being adjusted by inaccurate user accounts.

"I dunno, a couple days ago. Maybe Thursday."​

So if you go here and look at the charts in the rightmost of the center area, you will see the numbers do not match anything they report on a day to day basis. Like right now they have only 1 new case reported for yesterday! https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/dashboards

That was one of the reasons why I was driven to collect the numbers, because the state's constant revision of them made it impossible to know if they're not just cooking the books. Even the chart for Total Cases at WorldOMeter for Ohio is slightly off, since they're getting numbers from individual county websites and then some of the larger cities numbers are not reported in the county numbers so they have to combine like over 90+ data sources.

The only number chart that aligns is the daily new cases chart. This show fairly well how abysmal we're doing in containing the virus. It's still spreading close to a R=1 rate. It could be worse, but it should be so much better.

Do they not provide graphs at these official government dashboards? Neither you nor BRiT are posting anything but hard-to-read numbers. In the UK we get these:

Texas has gone out of their way to hide any usefull information such as you have shown. Any charts like the one you have shown do not exist. The reason they have done so is pretty obvious since they are forcing the opening of the state.

As for Dallas County they have some charts but they are not very usefull. They have these charts available:

As of 11:00am May 25, 2020, Dallas County Health and Human Services is reporting 171 additional positive cases of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total case count in Dallas County to 8,998, including 211 deaths. No new deaths are being reported today.

Antibody tests for Covid-19 wrong half the time, CDC says

Antibody tests used to determine if people have been infected in the past with Covid-19 might be wrong up to half the time, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in new guidance posted on its website.

Antibody tests, often called serologic tests, look for evidence of an immune response to infection. "Antibodies in some persons can be detected within the first week of illness onset," the CDC says.

They are not accurate enough to use to make important policy decisions, the CDC said.

"Serologic test results should not be used to make decisions about grouping persons residing in or being admitted to congregate settings, such as schools, dormitories, or correctional facilities," the CDC says.

"Serologic test results should not be used to make decisions about returning persons to the workplace."

Health officials or health care providers who are using antibody tests need to use the most accurate test they can find and might need to test people twice, the CDC said in the new guidance.

A false positive will lead someone to believe they have been infected when in fact they have not been. There's little evidence now about whether having been infected gives people immunity to later infection, but doctors worry that people will behave as if they are immune if they get a positive antibody test.

"It cannot be assumed that individuals with truly positive antibody test results are protected from future infection," the CDC says in the updated guidelines. "Serologic testing should not be used to determine immune status in individuals until the presence, durability, and duration of immunity is established."
 
I've only dipped in and out of the media surrounding this whole event, but every time, it's just proven to me what an atrocious circus we've descended into.

The facts of the above article could be relayed to a government official during a press briefing, and these facts could be relayed quite... factually. The kind of thing you'd do if you were actually trying to be helpful and advance a cause.

Similarly, a government official could respond to those facts with some degree of honesty. "That's an interesting, effective methodology. We'll look into it. But right now, we're committed to an alternative. It will be precisely one week from now before we review the matter, and assess whether China's methodology would be one to adopt." Also the kind of thing you'd do if you were trying to be helpful and advance a cause.

But it won't be that. It hasn't been for years. Not with any subject. It'll be some hungry, desperate, twerp journalist looking to stroke their own ego with a "gotcha" moment, because they've mistaken movies for life, mistaken the pursuit of narratively dramatic moments for doing your fucking job. And the response will come from some career politician, who's more interested in combating and discrediting the journalists than they are in also doing their fucking job, and engineering a functional government and society.

The pandemic has exposed the depths of governmental and journalistic ineptitude. Exposed how it deeply its gotten to the core of both institutions. Exposed how it's not just a charade that takes place around lesser issues, like the age at which one receives a free bus pass. Even when we need them to be effective, they both continue behaving like a bunch of sixth formers, arguing about how to run a world in which they've spent no time.
 
France bans hydroxychloroquine as COVID-19 treatment
France has banned hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, its government announced Wednesday.

French officials canceled a previous decree that permitted doctors to provide the anti-malaria medicine to certain patients suffering from COVID-19, Reuters reported. The cancellation is set to go into effect immediately.

France is the first country to ban hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment, since the World Health Organization (WHO) announced Monday that it was stopping a trial testing the drug's effectiveness in treating COVID-19 patients because of safety concerns.

The French ban was announced in the government's official bulletin and confirmed by the health ministry, according to Reuters. WHO's suspension of the trial testing was not mentioned in the statements.
