Looks like it'll be increasingly difficult to contain all coronavirus related discussions within that one thread..

This is a thread about E3 and not Covid19. Fallout for E3 and impact on the industry goes here. Spread of the disease and it's impact goes there. ;)

(or was that a joke?)

So far, all the posts with discussions about MWC getting cancelled, SXSW getting cancelled, Google IO getting cancelled, GDC getting cancelled, systems and components getting supply shortages, speculation over whether or not Sony delayed any kind of announcement due to the virus, speculation over whether or not the consoles will suffer from major supply shortages, speculation over whether or not the console releases will be postponed, etc. have been moved to that thread (at least I think I've had more than a handful of posts moved there from different threads IIRC).

At some point, I think most discussions on every tech news will revolve around how the coronavirus spreads and incapacitates industries in one way or another.
My suggestion is that like how it was done on this thread, you (mod team) could stop moving every tech+corona-related discussions towards that thread, and leave it dedicated to non-tech general information and updates about how the virus is spreading, measures being taken, statistics on infected vs. recovered, etc.
Basically, leave that thread as a public service for general information on the virus and let all the tech-related effects of the virus within the tech discussions themselves.
Otherwise I think we'll be left with very few discussions that can be taken outside the coronavirus thread.

Just a suggestion, though.

At this point, any and all tech threads could just have a single statement of "cancelled or postponed due to CoronaVirus" without getting into actual talk about the virus in general. Most of these other events that were postponed or cancelled dont get enough discussion on their own even when they are happening, so no need to have a metric ton of XXX Cancelled threads. So that's why those discussions were moved into the virus thread.

Any surviving tech threads would then pivot to the discussion about: will there be a replacement, what will the industry do, etc. This is exactly what the E3 2020 Cancelled thread is doing, people are talking about suitable replacement events or marketing efforts from companies that planned to attend and some are even talking about this being the final straw that ends the E3 entirely like no more E3 2021 onward.

Just a suggestion. Why not keep the "Baseless Rumor" threads unlocked so people can continue to contribute and post any unsubstantiated rumors that would otherwise be frowned upon in the technical threads? Can't both threads coexist and continue to generate forum discussion?

They are. They were never locked, only restarted anew after major reveal events or timelines. So nothing new to do, as we were always doing so.
