NPD January and February 2020

Just because I still am not allowing myself to break self-quarantine. And noticing that I hadn't looked at January and February. Not surprising as both were REALLY slow months.

First up January.

  1. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
  2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019
  3. Madden NFL 20
  4. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
  5. Grand Theft Auto V
  6. NBA 2K20
  7. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate*
  8. Mario Kart 8*
  9. Ring Fit Adventure
  10. Red Dead Redemption II
  11. Minecraft#
  12. Pokemon Sword*
  13. Luigi’s Mansion 3*

  16. Need for Speed: Heat
  17. FIFA 20
  18. Just Dance 2020
  19. Mortal Kombat 11
  20. Pokemon Shield*
It's a slow month when a Dragon Ball Z game can take the top spot. Granted it's a fairly decent title that isn't just a brawler.

How slow?
  • Total Video Game Sales was down 26% YoY.
  • Video Game Hardware Sales was down 35% YoY.
  • Game Sales down 31% YoY.
  • Accessories and Game cards down 11% YoY.

Minecraft. It's like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps going and going and going and going.

Also, GTA V still doing better than RDR 2. Hell GTA V is still doing better than just about any other game out there.

Ring Fit Adventure? Not something I expected would appear in January, much less be it's highest placement in NPD (it released Oct. 18, 2019).

“Ring Fit Adventure jumped to become the 9th ranked title on the best-sellers chart in January,” said Piscatella. “This is the highest ranked placement for Ring Fit Adventure to date.”

No surprise, COD: MW 2019 in the top spot.

Next post, February. :)

Well, that didn't last long.

COD: MW back at the top of another slow month.

GTA V climbs into the 3rd spot.

Ring Fit Adventure continues it's climb up the charts to the 7th spot! Almost but not quite the best selling game on NSW. :p

Is Minecraft still being a pest? Yup, there it is at number 11.

February was a pretty abysmal month for the games industry. So, I'm just lumping it in with the other dismal month, January. In fact, they are so similar that total sales drops almost mirror January's.
  • Total sales down 29%
  • Hardware sales down 34%
  • Game sales down 31%
  • Accessory and card sales down 11%

  10. Minecraft#
Well, despite COD: MW taking the top spot for Feb., Dragon Ball Z is still the best selling game of 2020. :D And Minecraft just won't go away at number 10 for 2020.

Yeah, no-one is likely to displace COD: MW 2019 for the rolling 12 months until the next COD comes out probably.

/Yawn.

Well, March should be more interesting as a lot of titles are come out in March. Ori and Nioh 2 to name a couple.

Here's the Top 10 Xbox games for February:

Would be interesting to know how many of those games people here own.

I own these(in alphabetical order):
  • Borderlands 3
  • Minecraft
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Tom Clancy's The Division 2
I just bought Ori and The Will of Wisps. My next full price game will be Halo Infinite. All the rest of my games will be Games with Gold or Game Pass. Oh & all of those are digital. Never once bought a disc game for the Xbox One.
