No E3 for Sony 2020, but many consumer events around the world .

"After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020," said a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson. "We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.

"We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe.

Personally I see no reason why the demos shouldn't be available to download onto your console and the trailers viewable from YouTube. Sony could get their message out and more interactive than what E3 affords.

IIRC Sony was doing big special Playstation events with games and demos to play during the PS1 days.

Did e3 piss Sony off somehow? Throwing hundreds of events worldwide isn't a practice of the biggest bang for your buck. The cost of an e3 press conference should be dwarfed by hundreds of events that targeted at large crowds.

I believe they don’t feel E3 aligns with their needs anymore. As in they don’t want to do an industry show. They want to do an experience show. More customer focus; less industry focus

When they gimp their console's power to such depth all because of the BC, why the hell would they want to spend more on Remasters and the likes? I hope the BC truly bears the fruit of their labor.

But from the consumer side, e3 was never about attending the show. It was about the level of press coverage and the number of eyeballs it still garners.

That being said, Sony doesn’t actually have to attend but if it’s not doing a press conference and releasing a bunch of videos relating to the PS5 during e3, it’s missing out on a ton of exposure..

They got too comfortable with things this gen thus feeling too complacent about skipping E3 after E3. If they're in a PS3 situation you can bet your mortgage they wouldn't even skip a Sunday market show.

"PS3 Situation" -- Do you mean before they launched PS3 Japan or before global launch or after the global launch? Like being behind by 1 year? Or talking about something else entirely?

As in their dire financial situation during the PS3 period, it's ironic tho how the poorer you are the more you try and invest to impress.
