Also... new, "trailer?" Anyway, anyone wanted to see what a very early next gen game looks like, this is probably far more representative than the pre-rendered Senua 2 trailer.

That being said for fuck sake artists stop making trees with like 10k polys they look fake as hell as soon as you look at them for more than half a second, spend that next gen budget there, please.

Phil put out a statement on the GPU alone and the CPU alone, so now we have statements on each part.

"We wanted to have a dramatic upgrade from the Xbox One base console. So when we do the math, we're over eight times the GPU power of the Xbox One, and two times what an Xbox One X is."

"On the CPU side, which is [something] we really wanted to push relative to previous generations, we have four times the compute power on the CPU in Project Scarlett."

Estimating clock speed.
1.6 -> 3.2 GHz. 1.5X IPC Jaguar to Zen 1. 1.05X IPC to Zen+. 1.15X to Zen 2. ~3.62X.

Looks like it's indeed 12tf for XBOX series X.

Speechless.

And yes, eating this at the moment.

Wouldn't 12 TFlops be over 9 times more powerful than a Xbox one ?

Still good news that it's not 8 TFlops that many have been saying it would be

"Microsoft isn’t talking GPU performance specifics just yet, but Spencer has dropped some hints in an interview with Gamespot, and the graphics you see in the Hellblade 2 trailer were supposedly captured in a game engine, running on the console, in real-time. “We wanted to have a dramatic upgrade from the Xbox One base console,” says Spencer. “So when we do the math, we’re over eight times the GPU power of the Xbox One, and two times what an Xbox One X is.” The Xbox One X is 6 teraflops of GPU performance, so the Xbox Series X could be capable of 12 teraflops."

Sounds like their targeting 12TF... not quite there at the moment.

I read that as gamespot putting a caveat on their interpretation. Phil’s statement seems clear.

Pretty much you have these statements on GPU, which can be reduced down to one:

SeX GPU > 8 * 1.31 TF (10.48)
SeX GPU > 8 * 1.4 TF (11.2)
Sex GPU >= 2 * 6 TF (12)

Reduction:
SeX GPU >= 12 TF

12TF traditional GCN style FLOPS, not RDNA FLOPS. There is a BIG difference.
a 9TF RDNA is about equal to 12TF GCN.

A 12TF RDNA GPU would be at least 2.5 times the power of One X.
A 12TF GCN GPU has considerably less performance than a Radeon VII, and is closer to a Vega 64.

He specifically avoided getting into the TF war, just stating two times the power for these reasons.

Wait... what??? That would be some serious blowback if true.

Yes it's strange how people jumped to the TFlop conclusion when he never mentioned TFlops.

12 Navi TFlops is more than 8 time the power of Xbox s 1.4 GCN flops.

Except MS has never compared GPU power this way. And they gave Gamespot exclusive access pre-reveal. You think there’d be 0 exchange about the story they planned to run before pub? These are fluff pieces intended to function as PR.

Oh come on. I was just wondering how long it would take people to do the "he's equating 9 RDNA TFlops to 12 GCN flops. It's really only 9". Sigh.

Well why didn't he say 10 times the power then because 12TFlops in Navi would be about that compared to 1.4 of GCN?

I suppose he could just be using straight Flops but that would be weird for marketing not to milk everything out of something.
