Gears 5 [XO, XBSX|S, PC, XGP]

Is it me or do the visuals seem kinda downgraded compared to what they showed originally?
The videos don’t really do the game justice. But at the same time t doesn’t really come off as cinematic, art direction may not be what some people like either.

No?

Game is very clean. Image quality on 4K60 on X1X is very impressive. Quite surprised it managed to hold this level of fidelity at this resolution and image clarity.

Among the games I’ve played on X1X, RDR2 included, this is among the cleanest. Crystal clear.
While I agree the image quality is pristine, I'd rather they reduce it to 30fps to pump up more graphical fidelity. Something about the alpha effect look kinda cheap.

After having had Gears of War 4 multiplayer be 60 FPS (both XBO-S and XBO-X), there would be a riot from the player base if they even attempted to lower it to something less than 60 FPS in multiplayer (which is the footage we are looking at and you are commenting on). :)

As for single player, I'm sure the XBO-S version will be 30 FPS while the XBO-X will have both a 30 and 60 FPS option just like Gears of War 4.

It'd be interesting to see how many (or how few) XBO-X owners chose 30 FPS over 60 FPS for the single player. I'm sure MS has the data, but no way for us to get access to it.

SB

Why would they have to do a Technical Test for Campaign? There's no reason to circulate anything related to Campaign, no reason to let Spoilers ruins initial impressions either.
I am not asking for a technical test for campaign. They can show a new trailer or some gameplay footage from the campaign without spoiling anything

Ah yes, I should've be more clear and refer to the campaign, don't really care about the MP so 60 is cool. I kinda just assumed even the sp is 4k/60 on 1X and that stress test showed a few compromises probably due to catering for 60fps mode.

Campaign will be 30fps/900p-1080p on Xbox One Fat and it'll be dynamic 4k/60ps on the X. They'll be no compromise toward fidelity, they're just really good at optimization.

I wouldn't look at graphics and make that assumption. Compromises could come in the form of texture quality, AF, or weaker AA, varying levels of stuff like that.
I suppose low polygons could also be a thing.

But there are other things in which certain effects might look the way they are. Engine limitations etc. Just may not be worth it for them to optimize certain things as they prioritize things surrounding gameplay, then say environmental immersion.

Some thing I've seen people sort of choke them on is the low poly snow avalanche. I don't think there is an easier way to do it, I think the closest we've seen is BFV implementation. It's one thing to make a shader to make it seem like you're walking through snow. It's another thing entirely to actually simulate behaving like dropping snow and ice.

Can't get start at to work for some reason. Too lazy. Start at 162s

Played a bit of it yesterday. Matchmaking seemed a bit slow and glitchy but overall it played well. Looked very sharp on my XONEX.

Really liked horde mode in Gears 4. Just a shame nobody could stick to their class specialisations.

Definitely a glimpse of what to expect in next generation. The 60fps combined with 4Kish resolution, whatever sort of reconstruction/dynamic resolution they are using, that higher frame rate implementation is definitely enabling them to present a very crisp image. Much more so than native 4K at 30fps.

Gears 5 - Halo Reach character pack!

The Halo: Reach Character Pack includes Emile and Kat multiplayer characters, Halo Reach: Noble Team Jack skin, Halo Reach: Noble Team banner, Halo Reach: Noble Team Blood Spray, and Halo Reach: Noble Team Mark (Character pack requires Xbox Live Gold on console, membership sold separately.)The Halo: Reach Character pack is included in the Gears 5 Ultimate Edition or with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Horde reveal trailer

The ultimate co-op experience is back! Battle waves of enemies with 4 friends as you fortify to survive and unleash your Ultimate abilities to turn the tide. Gears 5 launches September 6th with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

"Space marine" model swaps? pfffft whodathunk

Hell, it's about time.

*cough*

Looks like they also include all the Reach armor abilities too, at least I saw them use Decoy and Shield in the trailer.

Shield @ 0:15.
Decoy @ 0:18.

The super saiyan brumak is kinda funny.

Next they need fortified mountain dew promotion for Horde (with code redemption for whatever scrap).

They gotta have the Kat dance as an "expression".

Jack hologram (ala the horde trailer 1:03) ?

They go into a lot of detail on all of this in the Microsoft Gamescom show.

The abilities are tied to the characters. Emile gets shield as his ultimate ability while Kat gets Decoy as her ultimate ability.

Also, I like the change to horde with the power pylons that spawn every 10 rounds after the Boss is killed. It forces you to be less stationary. Do you move the base to control the power pylon? Do you try to expand the base to be able to try to control the pylon? Do you just ignore it? Also, power is now used by all characters and isn't only for the Engineer to build things.

Loot boxes are gone. All characters start off with every ability card at base level. Then during matches you have the option to level them up using power that you pick up during the matches. Good change IMO.

The only concern is that this may lead to it becoming far more difficult during random PUB matches for a good engineer to do their job.

Also, Gears 5 will be available on Steam as well as the Microsoft Store on PC.

The marketing for this game has been complete dismal. Worried we were looking at a complete flop.

The marketing is strange... Preview arrive a bit late... But the game looks good. I think there is a real chance this will be the GOTY 2019
