Windows 10 [2018]

Microsoft might offer Windows 10 as a subscription
Microsoft has been playing with subscription-based models of their software for a while now, much like Office 365. From the looks of things. From the looks of it Microsoft could soon do the same with their OS, that would be Windows 10 in a subscription form,

Microsoft is headhunting a product manager for a consumer product called Microsoft 365, this is a software package that was only offered to companies. Microsoft 365 is a monthly subscription service that includes Windows 10 and the Office 365 package. Based on a job advertisement, it is now deduced that Microsoft will also target the subscription service, which is currently aimed at business customers, to end users. It is believed that the package will include Outlook Mobile, Microsoft To Do, and some MSN apps.

The target audience would be huge and many users may even be happy to pay a monthly fee for a complete package of Windows 10, Office 365 and Mobility and Security.

well obviously they shot themselves in the foot (while planing that and giving away lots of free upgrade licences) given the unusually long shelf life for Windows 10..

If they try to force that shit on Consumers with existing licenses I'm shifting to Linux.

I can certainly see the attractiveness of it for a Business though, especially one with significant fluctuation in staff numbers.

I could see them possibly shifting Windows Pro to a subscription based service, but I doubt they would also drop the stand alone purchase at the same time.

I'm skeptical they'd ever do something like that for Windows Home. A retail Home license is already so cheap that a subscription for it doesn't make sense.

One interesting wrinkle in this is WRT to the educational sector. Office 365 is already basically free for any student at pretty much any 2 year or 4 year college or university, in the US. I'm not sure how it is abroad. This would make it easy for them to offer a free Windows installation for students as well, tying it into the same service.

SB

How can I see what are the previous graphics drivers I have installed in win 10?

problem, I have been using the original intel drivers, so a couple of weeks ago, thought maybe I should use new drivers after all 655 is new hardware so a lot prolly has been improved in the past few months, but since the new driver lots of crashes (and no noticable benifit), so I've installed an older intel driver version at random, same problem lots of crashes.
A way for windows 10 to rollback drivers that actually works would be nice (apparently this feature does exist in windows but its greyed out on my version)
windows 10 must store that older driver versions somewhere in some text file?

lots of crashes.

If rollback is greyed out in device manager then it thinks it's using the standard Windows 10 driver.

OK ta, in that cause its thinking wrong as I'm using the intel drivers from the intel site
though At the moment driver 25.20.100.6471 ( 4 releases ago) has worked 24hours without a crash, the last 3 drivers crash

Microsoft raises Windows 10 min storage requirement to 32GB
Microsoft is upping the minimum storage requirements for Windows devices to 32GB. This move comes into effect from the arrival of the Windows 10 May 2109 (1903) Update, reports ZDNet. The new minimum storage capacity rule applies to devices sporting either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows. Previously Microsoft set a minimum of 16GB storage, which proved quite a tricky proposition for owners of such devices wishing to update their OS, or install many apps, or store much data offline.

Windows 10 is returning to the Windows 95 style of Windows with the next Windows 10 May 2019 Update.

one of my favourite features of the new May 2019 update. Windows Sandbox, a lightweight and easy to use Windows virtual machine within your Windows 10 OS made to run all your untrusted Win32 apps which can be also used to exchange documents, test programs you aren't sure whether you should use or not, browse the internet, etc, where you don't share your data at all, and deletes everything once you close it.

It's much more convenient than VirtualBox in some cases.

Anandtech on May update https://www.anandtech.com/show/1438...date-feature-focus-light-themes-and-sandboxes

Pretty much the only theme thing I'm interested is when they bring back a Glass equivalent which the last couple of updates have been moving gradually towards.
The screenshots I've seen make this new Light theme look awfully like a regression to Win8 flat pastel colours but hopefully its a wrong impression.

For High DPI stuff what I'd really like (& it may be a GPU Driver is where to do it?) is to have legacy full-screen aps with limited resolution (ie old games) auto-upscaled to native Desktop resolution so that you don't get monitor mode-switch & 2nd screen windows messed up.
Maybe this can be done already? But I've not managed to figure out how.

Anyone else having Windows Explorer stability issues with the new version?
Mine seems to be semi-randomly crashing.
