The Insomniac Spiderman [PS4]

Hmm. The tired open world tropes (climbing towers to reveal shit on the map, i.e. the antithesis to real exploration. Also collecting backpacks), playing the hacking minigame from Bioshock as Peter Parker, and the QTEs still have me a little worried. Let's hope the skill tree will actually provide some proper depth and customization. In most action games you just get a collection of relatively pointless rpg-lite elements, maybe even a needlessly gimped player character at the beginning. Of course they aren't there because they're needed let alone beneficial. They're there because that's what all games do now.

Yup, I agree. I liked how FFXV did it, with areas unlocked as the story progressed.

By this point, Spider-Man felt so complete that we jokingly asked the developers to just send it home with us. It has almost everything that anyone could have wanted from a Spider-Man title, and we’ve barely scratched the surface of it. Some aspects of the gameplay remind us of the classic Spider-Man 2for the Playstation 2, but refined to a much higher level. As excited as we are to finish playing through Spider-Man, the prospect of DLC and continuing missions is almost as enticing as the main game itself. Insomniac’s Spider-Man is so enjoyable that we don’t want to put it down any time soon. This is the comic book world that we want to live in, and it may be a real contender for video game of the year.

Ultimately, all the ingredients seem to be here for a superior Spider-Man experience. Playing through the first two hours of Marvel's Spider-Man reminded me of the first time I played Arkham Asylum or saw Guardians of the Galaxy in the cinema. These were deep, complex worlds I'd known for a long time on paper, and it feels exciting to see them opened up for new audiences and players. Spider-Man really seems to be having a moment right now, with new Marvel films coming up and Into the Spiderverse possibly going further into the wider multiverse lore than mainstream ever has before, it feels like Insomniac's take will be another possible entry point for new fans.

Hollywood Reporter: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/h...r-man-is-definitive-spidey-video-game-1130566
The world that is crafted by Insomniac Games is truly beautiful, a lushly rendered mashup of Marvel's version of New York and the fantastical sense of urgency and urban power the real-life eastern metropolis evokes. Equally stunning is the character rendering, hyper-realistic at times (pores can be seen on character's faces) and yet still maintaining that brightly colored, saturated comic book vitality. From Spidey's suits to villains' iconic uniforms to a sunset framing the jagged skyline of Manhattan as Parker looks down from the apex of Avengers Tower, the game has a warm, understated allure that draws the player in and beckons them to explore.

The bottom line is that, even this early, we’re confident in saying that Insomniac's made the best ever Spider-Man game here. It may well subscribe to every open world trope under the web-spinning sun, but when the end-product is this polished and consistent then that’s not such a bad thing. Frankly, you’ll already know whether you want this game, but we’re more than happy to confirm that it meets expectations with aplomb.

So it seems there are just nine of these points, one for each district: Chinatown, Greenwich, Financial District, Hell's Kitchen, Midtown, Upper West Side, Central Park, Upper East Side, and Harlem. This doesn't bother me because Spider-Man is Spider-Man. I.e. getting on top of things and climbing things is what he does. I thought there was going to be dozens and dozens.

Logic-wise it still seems silly but equally it's a game and sometimes you want to draw a player to specific places. I bet each will reveal one of those amazing vistas (like the one below) providing a great view over each district they will promote further exploration of those areas. Informed exploration over blind exploration.

Not only this, how do you do in a very dense environment like a city. It is not barren land like in Zelda BOTW.

The density of pedestrians and vehicles in Spider-Man is super impressive. I don't know how it compares to GTA V by the numbers but it looks great.

I am curious to see how much effort really went into the vehicles or it is all smoke and mirrors. GTA does an amazing job of ensuring pedestrians and vehicles don't jam up. If there is any form of congestion in GTA cars will drive around obstructions or push through. In both WATCH_DOGS games, if you stand near an intersection for a few minutes you'll eventually see an immovable traffic jam. It doesn't impact the game in average play but it's nice to see how robust the city AI is in GTA.

I hope there are lots of incidental crime-fighting things to do outside the core super-bad-guy missions.

Nice trailer, but the voice overlay (radio jockey) was so annoying. Anyhow, nice to see Insomniac's attention to detail by making sure that Stark/Avengers Tower and the Sanctum Sanctorum are properly integrated into the New York skyline.

This isn't any different than any other big time movie/game. There are always jerks that enjoy spoiling everyone's enjoyment.

How do they get hold of these spoilers? If normal channels, fans need to just avoid them as usual. If you don't want a movie spoiled, don't watch the trailers, don't watch the promo interviews, don't visit threads discussing it, and don't go to movie websites and click the articles on it.

The only time spoilers are shitty are when they are unavoidable, like a big Reddit title "Green Goblin is Spiderman's Dad" on the popular page or sommat that you can't know to avoid before it's too late.

God damn it shifty, I hadn't played the game yet!
Spiderman is Peter Parker!

it turns out that two of the xboxers involved are in my friends list, I played with one of them a few times, and even chatted with him, some time ago. He wanted to recruit me to start a Xbox page, like 4 years ago.

this is the main culprit, ttsmu (Xclusive Xboxer), banned from a webpage for 1000 years -back in november 2017-, because of maliciously spreading spoiler of PS4 games in a VERY popular forum.

LStkqtD.jpg

he resurrected, with another nick, and this is the conversation that lead to the definitive proof it was him (Magnarock is the other guy who wanted me to help him building a Xbox webpage back in 2014)

Guy 1: And ttsmu hasn't come back in the shape of a badge? I'm puzzled.
Guy 2: With a different nick ;)

Guy 1: Shurmanu easily beats you.
Btw, don't be shy, and tell me who is ttsmu now, I want to know.

Guy 2: I won't 'cos you'll tattle

Guy 1: Seriously dit that spoilerish imbecile of ttsmu come back?
Guy 2: Yes.
You will know who is him soon. Spiderman is close (to come out)
