Let's see what you tech gurus think about this - saw this at MatroxForums and just couldn't help posting it here

Montreal, Canada, Feb 4, 2003—Matrox Graphics Inc., the leading professional graphics company, today unveiled the revolutionary Matrox P-762 high-fidelity GPU delivering a new level of visual quality, superior performance and a wide range of innovative new technologies

P-762 is an 91 million transistor, 0.09µ, 2D, 3D and DVD/video GPU with a true 512-bit DDR-2 memory interface providing over 80 gigabytes per second (GB/s) of raw memory bandwidth. This AGP/PCI-express device supports unified frame buffers up to 384MB in size and support for triple TMDS transmitters. Designed to surpass the expectations of the most demanding professional users and PC enthusiasts, P-762 has three major goals: to dramatically increase the quality of all aspects of visualization, to sustain extremely high performance for the most complex and demanding graphics rendering and to deliver a number of innovative and substantive features.

Unparalleled Visual Quality
To achieve the highest-fidelity graphics, P-762 has been designed with tremendous attention to detail paid to every aspect of the graphics pipeline. P-762 continues Matrox's unwavering focus on raising the bar in cutting-edge visual quality by bringing significant new quality-based innovations to market. This leading image quality and support for the latest display technologies are key attributes of the product. Some specific quality-related innovations include:

* Revolutionary Display Output Technology—The display output subsystem of P-762 is based on a revolutionary new design that delivers truly high fidelity DVI output on three monitors. The P-762 delivers the PC industry's first true 3 monitor DVI output.

Superior Performance
With massive memory bandwidth and a colossal array of 3D processing elements, P-762 delivers the fastest 2D, Microsoft DirectX® 9.1, OpenGL 1.4 and DVD performance. It sustains very high performance even during the rendering of complex 3D scenes with high polygon counts, FAA-16x antialiasing, 16-sample anisotropic filtering, 10-bit GigaColor Technology, and deep vertex and pixel shaders. P-762 pushes the limits of design and architecture by integrating the following high fidelity performance technologies:

* 512-bit GPU—P-762 is the first device with a true 512-bit wide DDR-2 local memory interface, which can provide over 80 GB/s of raw memory bandwidth. Forming the backbone of the rendering and display engine, the 512-bit architecture and massive memory bandwidth enable P-762 to sustain the highest performance for the most complex 3D and 2D applications, even during high resolution, multi-display computing.

* Quad DirectX 9.1 Vertex Shader Array—P-762 integrates four Microsoft DirectX 9.1 compatible vertex shader units into a single vertex processing array. Powered by a sophisticated control unit, with deep instruction and register caches, P-762 is able to sustain very high performance levels even when executing complex vertex shader programs on high-resolution 3D models. In addition, P-762 is optimized for OpenGL standard lighting models and handles these at accelerated rates.

* Quad Texturing—P-762 enables single-pass quad texturing with four pixel-per-clock throughput. With the latest generation of 3D games, and a plethora of future games expected to push the limits of texturing beyond dual texturing, P-762 is the most advanced GPU that provides a rendering platform that sustains performance for cutting-edge graphics applications.

* 56-Stage Shader Array—With six programmable texture and eight programmable pixel shader stages on each of its four pixel pipelines, P-762's 56-Stage Shader Array boasts the largest and most powerful pixel rendering pipeline to date. The massive shading power of the engine allows P-762 to render the most demanding next-generation content at high performance levels.

P-762 offers a host of other features including the Matrox PowerDesk-HighFidelity (HF) utility suite, a power user's dream for hardware configuration and desktop management in multi-display environments.

Incorporating the most advanced features and initiatives in the industry, Matrox P-762 delivers a breakthrough rendering platform that combines maximum quality, performance and features to deliver the highest-fidelity graphics—with no compromises.

Edit: it is of course a joke.

Good lord.

I remember when Matrox did the unthinkable and announced a 256-bit memory bus...

Does this mean they'll once again have very few bandwidth saving techniques? Will they once again bank on absurd raw bandwidth...? Shame.

And... DX9.1 rears its ugly head again. At this point, MS is probably considering just releasing a DX9.1 to follow the bandwagon...

I've seen a few of your post's there...thats all. Your a freakin' hardcore gamer you know that?

Nah, not at a-- well, yeah, kinda. :p Why do you bring this up all of a sudden? ^^;

I guess I'm just a bit slow, but is this a joke or is it serious?
It is most certainly a joke.
Uh, what? We're not going to see the 56 stage shader array? :( Noooooooooooo

What no 3dlabs chip out before the matrox? I guess its not quite a complete repeat of last year. Anyway as long as the speed isn't a completely crawl with some DX9 plug-ins for photoshop and stuff the chip might have a useful market segment in proffesionally cards.

vnet: was that nessessary? I really don't think so.

Tagrineth: and the rare are the ones who really thought Matrox able to release 256Bit memory bus card. ;) yeah, I know this being shameless plug on shameless hyping that blowed up on my face later on, but still it is a funny feeling afterwards remembering that I knew basic specs of unreleased chip about 6 months before the launch...

Once more:

IT'S FAKE.

Murcers are still ruling the world with fake launches. no other fan site can keep up with their track record.

Because we don't have enough real launches to balance it out.

Had to check the date when I saw this. I was afraid two months have passed without me noticing.
