What are you playing now? (console edition) [2011 - 2017]

Crash is so freaking hard now that it put me off a bit! Maybe old age but damn! I'm sure I wasn't this crap 20 years ago.
The main problem for me is that often you can't see much of what is coming at you and the controls are not responsive enough... Barely played the game originally on PS1, I was more of a Nintendo guy. Sometimes I play a bit the game on my PS3, still nope.

Man up! Crash was designed in an era where games weren't fair. Where you died, died and died again and were expected to commit enemies attacks and pattern to memory so you could counter the next time.

Thank Christ, we've moved on! :yep2:

Really enjoying both the Infinite Warfare and the Modern Warfare Remastered campaigns. Between the Crash N-Sane Trilogy and MW Remastered, I'm glad to see Activision showing their old properties some real love here.

The problem with the remastered Crash is that the folks at Vicarious Visions tried to make Crash's basic movement system consistent between all three titles. With years in between releases, plus the advent of the first Dual Shock controller at some point in time between Crash 2 and Crash 3, there obviously was no perfect consistency between the three games back then. Crash is arguably much easier to control right now, but he lost one rather crucial skill in the process: he simply cannot make long jumps from a complete standstill anymore. He could do that in CB1 back in the day. This meant you could take the occasional break during some of the more harrowing obstacle courses. (the turtle shell jumping passage in the High Road level is where this change is gonna bite you in the nuts) In the remake, he needs the momentum. He also drops a fair bit quicker after a jump.
On the flipside, some of the most brutal design quirks from CB1 have been excised from the remaster. Back in the day, boxes you'd smashed prior to reaching a checkpoint would actually respawn once you've lost a life. So if you wanted that blasted gem, you had to complete each and every level without losing a single life. You also couldn't save your game whenever you wanted. Only in the Tawna bonus stages if I remember correctly.

So all in all, Crash 1 (and only Crash 1 really) has indeed become a little more challenging to play. That said, it's still a heck of a lot easier to complete thanks to some of the concessions Vicarious Visions has made towards more modern game design.

By the way, I'd strongly advise the use of the d-pad for Crash 1. The game wasn't designed with analog sticks in mind, and this can become very obvious very quickly. It's much easier to complete some of the really demanding segments with the much more predictable all-or-nothing d-pad controls.

I have gotten hooked on Tricky Towers on the PS4 now, its a Tetris like game but where the pieces has weight and there is physics and different game modes.
I suck at it, but it's great fun. the online component is a bit of a let down, probably more fun with more players, but I only got 1 friend :(

I played that with my son a lot, great fun! He can really challenge me in that game now too.

I love Tricky Towers!! Spent days on it

Finished Infinite Warfare yesterday. Loved it. What an epic bunch of final missions. I even appreciated the very straight-forward good-vs-evil narrative. Shooters go down so much better when the guy you're playing as is just as stoked about smoking fools as I am while sitting in front of my tv.

I'm playing at being an indie dev. After lots of promise, it kinda sucks. Sooo much grind. There's some interesting mechanics in there but it's very unclear how to achieve objectives, and the skill requirements are ridiculously diverse. Working on one set of abilities just leaves you painfully short in other areas, and it's not like specialisation helps because you're forced take on every challenge with your current build. I think it's really supposed to be played coop, but it's nigh impossible to find a suitable group, plus that meta just damages progress in the rest of the game.

Doesn't help that games these days don't come with manuals and I'm having to find other player experiences online to see how they're progressing.

i got the ps4 combo on prime day, so ive been playing the last of us as it came with it, and its amazing.

i guess its sort of an oldie now, but its really something special.

Yep. Still one of the best PS4 game out there. Bloodborne being the best.

I'm not really playing anything on console. I'm play more on PC, but more and more PS4 exclusives attract me. So, today I'll get a PS4Pro, and Yakuza 0, Persona 5, and Horizon Zero Dawn, for now. Console Gaming forum, here I come.

Been a long time since I posted here...

I've been pretty disappointed by the offerings on the PS4, so I'm playing some old games that I never got around to back in the day.

Silent Hill 2 (PS2) - Impressive-for-the-time lighting doesn't hide the fact that this is basically a walking simulator with little real challenge, at least on normal difficulty. Pyramid head is a creepy dude. Most of the suspense comes from obnoxious music.

Project Gotham Racing 2 (Xbox) - Been having a lot of fun with this. Just got through the convertible races. Super smooth, pretty racer with cool handling physics. Graphics are firmly in the "Is this hardware really 16 years old?!?!" territory.

Thief: Deadly Shadows (Xbox) - Can't believe I passed this one up, as it's been a great successor to the Looking Glass games so far. To be honest, it would probably run better on my Macbook Pro with integrated graphics, but then I'd have to go through the trouble of installing Windows. These super-shadow games with normal maps everywhere were just too much for the Xbox to handle. Despite the N64-quality frame rate, though, I'm overall really enjoying it. Makes me sorry to see stealth action at such a nadir these days.

Read the post above yours. Get Bloodborne, sell the rest ;)

For some reason I installed Fallout 4 again. New melee char, no sneaking. The Pro patch is nice too. I just want to wander around a big area and kill crap. Destiny beta was fun for a few hours, but it's hard to care about the PvP when its throw away and only one map.

I should probably finish a game before I start one that I've finished already. Oh well.

Started The Witness and hooked !
Persona 5 installed and waiting. Cant decide if I should play both alongside or keep persona waiting till I finish off Witness !
