The classic title from the original Xbox might be back. Recently Phil Spencer used the silk-screen print of the original DVD case as his avatar and it seems that this confirms there is something going on here.

Microsoft have filed for this game to be registered in Europe.

Some Xbox classics might return for the Xbox One, like Voodoo Vince and Phantom Dust. I hope so.

Thanks to Juanito3D for the news.

The game will be re-released on Xbox One at 480p? Like the original?

someone who is called AaronIsGreen has claimed that the game runs at a higher resolution. But I don't believe the claims until Aarong Greenberg or Phil Spencer dismantle that theory.

#PhantomDust doesn't run at 480p on Xbox One and features visual enhancements.

I can imagine a game like that running at 480p and 1000 fps, wouldn't it be awesome?

You won't believe the game runs at a higher resolution until Greenberg or Spencer confirm it doesn't? Ok.. :runaway:

he is in Japan, so maybe he isn't going to reply to that for now. But certainly from the rumours on the game the remaster isn't going to be the most reworked game ever.

The wording leaves some interpretation so someone asked and was answered.

Q: "Free for always or only tomorrow?"
A: "Not just tomorrow, a free gift to our amazing fans, thank @shannonloftis"

Thanks for the clarification. I also thought it was free for 1 day and maybe a charge after.
Looking to forward to playing this although I think I have it for the OG Xbox, but hardly touched it.

My understanding is the game really gets good after a few hours of play. If I remember correctly, I may have stopped playing it too early because it was really slow in the beginning.

It looks like it may have some micro-transactions to accelerate your play, but seems like everything will be available for free but would have random unlocks? So I'm not certain if this would fall into the Free-to-Pay trope or not.

From the TruaAchievements discussion thread, but not certain where they got their info from [ https://www.trueachievements.com/n28012/phantom-dust-releases-tomorrow-for-free ]:

“You can still unlock everything normally, and the MP shop now always acts as if you’ve finished the campaign, so there’s a chance for any skill to be available (including ultra-rares) every time you visit the MP shop.

“Also, you can now skip campaign missions after 3 retry attempts, and we still give you all the skill / credit rewards. And you can still trade skills and credits online.”

Game is a bit different from what I've found about it, but rewards sticking with it with some varied/flexible gameplay. I'll probably play through the story mode first before doing any mp and even then probably only against frenemies.

The game store link is now live: https://www.microsoft.com/store/p/phantom-dust/9pcdnbhr11mr

I think the game weighs in a little under 10GB.

The Achievement list is available here: https://www.trueachievements.com/n28025/phantom-dust-achievement-list-revealed , none of which look all that difficult, perhaps just a little bit time consuming, but seems to be the typical progress through the story or get so many items.

9,50GB yes. Thanks for sharing, I didn't know til now. I am downloading it for the PC.

has anyone played it? I did --PC version. The game looks dated, especially the banding and blocky detail of the videos, although it improves a lot when it runs in real-time. Realtime graphics running and looking MUCH better than video!!, who would daresay that time ago!!

Gameplay feels ok, music and art style aren't my thing but it's not bad overall, especially for a free game.

I've only played the Xbox version and while you can tell it's not a current gen game, it holds up OK graphically.
The gameplay is really what's unique about it though.
I thought the game ran at 60fps at first, but after starting to play around with camera angles and rotating the camera extremely fast, I noticed that the game is locked at 30fps for whatever reason I can't understand.

Not really important for this kind of game to be 60 fps, but of course I'd rather take that than 30.
If they do a sequel, I can already imagine how much better the fx skills will be.
