DX12 Performance Discussion And Analysis Thread

Well, that was expected. This is like the DX11 driver they released two years ago which boosted their DX11 performance relative to Mantle titles.

3840x2160 with launch driver 368.81 vs 378.74
Hitman, High Settings + High SSAO (50.6, 62.1 or 23%)
Rise of the Tomb Raider, Very High + 2x SSAA (20.5, 27.2 or 33%)

Microsoft PIX now supports NVIDIA hardware performance counters.
As recently announced at GDC, we have partnered with NVIDIA to enable a rich set of hardware performance counters inside PIX. When running on an NVIDIA GPU with the latest driver (378.92) you will see ~300 newly available counters. These can provide much deeper insight into the rendering and performance characteristics of your workload than was previously possible.

File IO Traces

This latest version of PIX also adds support for File IO tracing, letting developers improve disk IO patterns.

Shader Edit & Continue

HLSL shader code can be edited directly inside PIX. This can be useful for prototyping and optimizing shaders, as it can greatly reduce the turnaround time when trying out different ideas.

Pixel Cost Visualizer
The new Pixel Cost visualizer colors the scene according to the approximate rendering cost of each pixel. The brightest areas of the resulting image indicate which parts were the most expensive to render.
