Nvidia Geforce Drivers Release Announcement thread

Going to have to try these to see if they resolve the rendering anomalies that have recently cropped up in GW2 and Warframe. It's hugely annoying to have things shining through your character. In GW2 I can see my glowing eyes head glamour showing through the back of my head. And in Warframe many light sources and text labels are now shining through my character. It's annoying as all hell.

Then again, they aren't typically benchmarked games by games journalists, so I doubt there will be any fixes. Just like always if it isn't a high profile recent release or one that is regularly benchmarked, it gets shoddy support from the driver team.

I haven't been so conflicted about a graphics card since the original Geforce 256. Loved the speed of it (just like this 1070) but its other shortcomings made me sell it off and get a slower Voodoo 5500 instead.

Regards,
SB

Developer Beta Driver Windows 376.71 - Linux 375.27.07

Beta support for the new Vulkan extensions:

Developer Beta Driver 376.66
Windows driver version 376.66 and Linux driver version 375.27.03 provide new features for Vulkan developers to test their upcoming Vulkan applications. Vulkan beta drivers with experimental API interop features.

New Extensions
The following new extensions are provided with this release:
Edit:
Here's some additional info regarding this driver:

NVidia Vulkan API updated from 1.0.24 to 1.0.38
This driver adds support for the experimental High Level Framework for Vulkan

Vulkan High Level Framework

VkHLF is an experimental high level abstraction library on top of Vulkan. It adds features like transparent suballocation, resource tracking on the CPU & GPU and simplified resource creation while staying as close as possible to the original Vulkan API. In contrast to Vulkan-Hpp, which was carefully designed to be a zero-overhead C++ abstraction for Vulkan, this library adds significant higher-level functionality. Even so, it has been designed for high-performance, but it can cost performance relative to native Vulkan if not employed with the intended usage patterns.

Since this project is in its early stages and under heavy development expect bugs and interface changes for a while. It should not be used for production code yet!

Build instructions
  • Clone the repository.
  • Execute git submodule update --init --recursive to get the 3rdparty dependencies. Alternatevely unpack glfw3 in 3rdparty/glfw.
  • Install Vulkan SDK 1.0.37 or newer.
  • Run CMake to generate the makefiles of your choice.

Seems there is also a new option available:

Edit: Possible the new option is for Maxwell as I don't see it available on my GTX 1080.

The OCP setting gives me weird behavior in some compute apps -- some refuse to load, others return an error message that the CUDA device is unavailable or busy.

These are bad drivers for me ... performance way down across the board with some crashes. Performance review at Guru also indicated these have very poor performance.

These stupid drivers changed my default audio device to the monitors speakers.

Played hours of RE7 without issue on 980M and 1070. That's why I got these drivers.

Malo that's sounds like HDMI? I have a HTPC and HDMI audio drives me mad because I have two HDMI connections. One to my TV and one to my receiver. The receiver doesn't support 1360x768 native of my TV so I'm stuck with this. The Windows audio channel configuration resets frequently (5.1 back to stereo). You can disable separate HDMI audio devices in the NV control panel. That at least keeps it from switching to my TV speakers. I blame Windows for this nonsense because that's where the configuration happens.

Well @swaaye it's actually a DP connection to the monitor. It does have speakers but it's never done that before. To be honest it was the first time I realized the monitor even had speakers lol. Sounded horrible.

Wow, who knew Minecraft was so cutting edge for Nvidia to barely be able to handle.

NVIDIA Releases GeForce 378.66 Drivers with New Features
NVIDIA has snuck something major into the 378 branch: OpenCL 2.0 is now available for evaluation.
OpenCL 2.0 support is not complete yet, but at least NVIDIA is now clearly intending to roll it out to end-users. Among other benefits, OpenCL 2.0 allows kernels (think shaders) to, without the host intervening, enqueue work onto the GPU. This saves one (or more) round-trips to the CPU, especially in workloads where you don’t know which kernel will be required until you see the results of the previous run, like recursive sorting algorithms.
...
Another major addition is Video SDK 8.0. This version allows 10- and 12-bit decoding of VP9 and HEVC video. So... yeah. Applications that want to accelerate video encoding or decoding can now hook up to NVIDIA GPUs for more codecs and features.
