EVGA’s Entire Range Of Nvidia GTX 1080 & GTX 1070 Featuring The ACX Cooler Is Affected
There were several investigations by a number of reputable technology outlets to try and identify the culprit behind it all. It was discovered that the issue originates from the voltage regulation modules which overheat leading to component failure and MOSFET blow out. The issue affects EVGA’s entire range of Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards equipped with the ACX cooler, all of which lack direct VRM cooling. This includes GTX 1080 & 1070 ACX, SC, FTW & FTW DT models. Essentially all dual fan models except the Classified.

Yeah EVGA seriously dropped the ball on that, the results of the temp increase can be seen with reviews by Tom's Hardware and Guru3d, all because they did not use ideal thermal pads.
I think some of the wiggle room from EVGA may be that in normal operation it would not exceed operating parameters, but then considering they developed Precision to OC this is a stupid narrative from EVGA IMO.

But that optional change request is a story that continues to unfold as there is confusion with regards to RMA it seems since they initially offered a full return update (some of that story unfolds in the below overclockers forum topic I link).

The last time wasn't that bad, they basically just had one heatpipe not touching the GPU core on the GTX 970 cards. This didn't make a huge difference in the temps as the cooler was still more than capable to handle the heat load. Many other card makers have had the issue, when re-using the same cooler with different GPU-dies.

This new issue seems more worrying and on a separate note EVGA also has currently closed their EU-store for whatever reason (some vague hints about moving the warehouse, this seems to take months with the online shop being down the whole time...) and don't provide any official information about why and for how long... The store page is still up, but none of the products are available for order. It's been like that for quite some time already. Very poor customer service on this front.
