Halo 5: Guardians [XO]

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to play Halo 5 lately, mainly to checkout Firefight. However, I keep getting an error message saying something like "There is a problem with the Party service" or something. My XBL account is gold and current, and I've passed all the network and XBL diagnostics.

Any tips on what I can do to resolve this?

Hmmmm....maybe uninstall and reinstall.

If you're interested, maybe join our game night we iroboto and I on mondays. We sometimes play on Thursday too, but it is reserved for Rocket League although we often play Halo as well.

Warzone Firefight is a lot of fun and is what I play when no other friends are online (contradictory I know). Be prepared as the mode is hard even with good players.

Edit: Also, hard reset!
Also, getting REQs for Firefight is very key. I try to at least 1 Firefight win a day just to get REQ points.

Check your NAT settings in network. Should be "open"

Does anyone know who is able to recruit members into our Spartan Company?

I went into our company at Halo Waypoint, but didn't see any option to be able to recruit new members. I have someone who would like to join ours.

Thanks

Just played through the single player campaign. Many of the mechincs, tech, art, music etc are really solid and sometimes almost sublime, but it's the experience of being a Halo fan and playing the single player campaign that I must now vomit up.

Nothing in it is terrible - apart from the Warden (every time) - but the entire story is an exercise in nothing.

It set up a premise no-one cared about - Locke vs Chef - and resolved it with an ending no-one could find interesting: Locke and Chef are now bros.

Buck did fuck all. Fred and Linda? Nothing characters. Laskey? Roland? Did nothing. Cortana? Now physically bodied but with poor exposition for her heel turn.

It's not truly terrible writing like Mass Effect 3 - which was so bad it gave millions of people imagination cancer and actually went back in time and killed everyone who's ever tried to write a story for the last five thousand years - but it's weak and disappointing like finding out the Viagra tablet you just swallowed was actually a fucking M&M and that's why excitement steadfastly refused to appear in you evening(s).

Fuck's sake 343, read a book - even a shit one - on story telling and then read a Gamasutra article - even a shit one - on agency within a game.

But most of all 343 .... fuck you for reminding me of Mass Effect 3. I now have to spend the next three days bleaching mind diarrhoea from my toilet.

RE: Cortana, In one of the comics, it is revealed that
you really need a comic to explain that H5 Cortana is just one of the copies of herself
.

I suggest something so inane and stupid like Happy Dungeons for a game imagination pallet cleanser.

And Halo 7 ends with Cortona waking up from lambency to discover the events of Halo 4, 5, and 6 were all just her dream.

Well, I thought the campaign and its gameplay was mostly bland but at least an improvement over H4. No fan of their personal drama focus than a space opera. In total the game felt slow vs. Halo. I only finished the campaign and never bothered with Halo PvP.

The PvP and PvE multi-player very good and I'd argue you're missing out on 80% of the game. I especially enjoy Firefight PvE.

I beat this campaign recently too. WAYYYYYYYYY better than Gears 4.

I stopped trying to pay attention to the stupidely convoluted Halo story ages ago, so I have no idea what was happening. However the last several levels built to a crescendo pretty nicely.

Graphics are another underrated Xbox title IMO. Very sharp, detailed, all at 60 FPS. I used to (in my head) prefer locked 900P over dynamic, but if this game is an indication dynamic is nice. It seemed like 1080P to me...

Halo campaign doesn't really feel right at 60 FPS though. Soap opera effect. Halo campaign are supposed to be methodical and feature epic graphics...which 60 FPS harms both goals immensely. Yes I just said the graphics are nice, but they should be state of the art in a Halo campaign, instead they're just..."good".

Complaints, you run out of ammo a lot. This forces you to scavenge and use other weapons, which is good, but I think they went too far with it. A lot of the guns feel like pea shooters, too. It doesn't flow as well as Destiny in PVE. But what game does?

Unlike Gears though the power weapons are actually power weapons, so that's nice.

6/10.
