CryEngine V

anybody successfully use CRYENGINE V?

im totally stuck. It keeps missing assets and the official tutorial http://docs.cryengine.com/display/CEMANUAL/CRYENGINE+Sandbox+Manual did not mention anything about importing assets. They only mention that they need two extra assets from marketplace.

the weird thing is, CryEngine launcher only can download them. It cannot integrate downloaded assets into Sanbox (CryEngine Editor). So those huge assets was useless. Just sitting there in HDD.

they should sticks with their old but trusty .zip complete pack download they had in CryEngine 3 era....so much headache installing CryEngine V.

Have you tried the video tutorials?

https://www.cryengine.com/tutorials

can't follow any of the tutorial. The assets used in official tutorial is not there even after installed by cryengine launcher.

Anyway, I workaround the problem by manually adding external pre-made project folder and then making new level from that external project.

Now having headache with textures and materials. The official guide tells me to use 3ds max to create .mtl file, instead of telling me how to use the build in material editor to create .mtl.

I tied to simply load the .tif texture that preview correctly on material editor. But became blurry goop after applied on the object lol.

Edit: the terrain sculpting and painting are still as awesome as it always been though.

"We are more than happy to announce that Film Engine, the successor of Crytek's Cinebox, is being premiered at ‪#‎fmx2016‬!

Film Engine presents the Virtual Production Stage at FMX 2016, alongside its tech partners Ncam, OptiTrack, ARRI and AMD: attendees will be immersed shoulder to shoulder with industry pros in a virtual production stage, working with the same state-of-the-art tools used by Hollywood directors.

Ready to get virtual?"

Considering both Unity and Epic put their cinematic tools directly into their engines splitting CryEngine into V and Film Engine seems like a pretty stupid idea but then again this is Crytek we're talking about...

New analytical GI mode.

Development->Core/System->Introducing parallelization into the game code (for 120 FPS)
This was the one that caught my eye. 120fps should be the upcoming VR target.

Some of the development stuff breaking down AI services to hopefully GPU accelerate would be nice as well.

That analytical gi was not as groundbreaking as I initially though after reading through its description. The real silver bullet for real time dynamic GI still lies in improving voxel/distancefield cone/ray-tracing and the like.

Crytek gives out some Game of the Year Awards

I liked The Alien Cube. It's actually a follow up to his previous (also Cryengine) game, Land of Pain. These are Lovecraft inspired Amnesia-esque games.

I need to check out Uninvited Guest and maybe Sniper too. I've never played one of those Sniper GW games.
