Nvidia Pascal Reviews [1080XP, 1080ti, 1080, 1070ti, 1070, 1060, 1050, and 1030]

However, if you want the very best and you want it right now, you can't do any better than the new Titan X based on Pascal. It is 15-40% faster than the GeForce GTX 1080 based on GP104, a card that took the flagship title itself just a little over a month ago! If you are an owner of a GTX 980 Ti, you'll find the Titan X to be a 40-80% performance improvement with the higher end of that range kicking in if you are playing at 4K.
Do we expect there to be a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti at some point that might split the difference between the GTX 1080 and the new Titan X? Yes. When? No idea - it could be next week the way NVIDIA is pumping out GPUs! If you would be pissed if a 12GB 1080 Ti was released in August with slightly less performance for $999 - don't buy the Titan X.

Here is a section that gets interesting. We overclocked by increasing the power target to 120 per cent and setting a 90°C temperature. The fan goes nuts (3,000rpm-plus) trying to keep the GP102 in a modicum of check.

Spec frequencies alone don't illuminate what's happening. The extra power target gives the Titan X room to breathe and really push the core. More power means a higher core speed, and our sample ran at very close to 2,000MHz when overclocked, which goes against what the above screengrab is telling you. Memory scaled to 11,000MHz, as well.

Well i hope, .. but if the headroom is obviously higher over the standard clock, due to the conservative one they have use, the question remain what is the maximum clock achievable over 2000mhz with the TDP limit at max ( 250+ 20% ). going to 1924mhz over 1500mhz is good, but it is in the range of 1080 actual clock. H2o temperature will have an impact, even on TDP, but not much if TDP limit is attained allready on air.( and as they was run at 62°C OC, i can imagine the problem for go higher was not the temperature )

Its obvious that Nvidia could have set a really higher default boost clock speed.

Dont misunderstand me, its excellent to see that with much more SP the gpu still achieve same clock of the 1080 - 1070 when OC. I just ask me if the OC will really scale with H20 that much ( untill a modded bios appears )

If nVidia wants to split the difference between the Titan X and the 1080 then maybe they'll consider the distance between the 1070 and the 1080. Afaik the 1070 has six eighths of the shaders of the 1080. Presumably nVidia could bin for seven eighths as well. Though there is no pressing need for that, I suppose. It's not like the jump up from a 1070 to such a part would open new gaming vistas.
IIRC we have the precedent of the GTX 680/670/660 Ti, and that of the AMD 5870/5850/5830 for companies getting maximum salvage out of an expensive product (though the 660 Ti was an odd, but very good, duck).
Edit: I forget if nVidia did this with the 4xxx, 5xxx, and 7xxx series as well. If they did, then is it odd that the tradition hasn't continued?
 
2050 on air so far getting 110-120 in witcher 3 from 65-75 on old titan x on water.

Quad SLI support for 3DMark Fire Strike is not enabled in our current 369.05 driver for the new Titan X (Pascal). Support will be added in our next driver releasing later this month. Sorry for the inconvenience.

1080 FE runs at 10% higher frequencies and is 5-15% (BF4,Witcher3) more energy efficient than Titan X(Pascal).

My take on it, apart from what was already mentioned, is that the Titan, when compared to the 1080, gets most of its speedup from memory intensive tasks, compared to the 1080 which gets more performance from compute intensive workloads, relatively speaking. Memory is substantially less efficient than compute units, at least according to Nvidia, so that results in lower overall efficiency.
