The second highest rated question on amazon about the Xbox One S is whether it will still be able to play Xbox One games.

I hope what I think is happening, is not happening.

The day after the brexit the most googled term in the Uk was more or less what meant going out the EU...lol

Well we are that dumb

It's what I thought. It's spreading like a virus. People think it's a mid-gen console because some wonderful news sources are spreading it.

"Of these new pieces of hardware, the Xbox One S and the PS4 Neo have the most in common: they’re comparable luxury upgrades to existing consoles rather than significant leaps forward."

"the Xbox One S is positioned to bring the Xbox One roughly on par with the PS4, making up for Microsoft’s shortfall this generation."

"The Xbox One S has more graphical capabilities than Xbox One for those developers who choose to take advantage of it moving forwards."

To be fair, the next sentence immediately after that is...
"To be explicit: unlike the Xbox One, the Xbox One S supports HDR visuals for games (should developers choose to take advantage of it), has full 4K support for Blu-ray and all compatible media playback, and can upscale games to 4K output. That said, you won’t see improvements in game performance, so don’t expect all those 30 FPS games to suddenly run at 60 FPS."

Which sounds entirely fair and accurate to me.

But which contradicts "the Xbox One S is positioned to bring the Xbox One roughly on par with the PS4, making up for Microsoft’s shortfall this generation."

unless their view is that playing the games on 4k hdr TV's with hdr enabled games that it makes up for some of the current deficiencies. And yep I'm reaching haha

Well its not a PR message and its not about the midgen upgrades.
was half joking, but that all came about from the dev (1st party) saying it's a bit more powerful, then Phil explaining "don't buy it expecting games to run a lot better" (something like that)
going by what some people say the slim is mid gen, Scorpio is next :runaway:

The trouble with Gaming News Journalists is once they get something buzzing in their ear, likely by other gaming news journalists, they can't let it go. It becomes a huge echo chamber, often times with them feeding each other. Sometimes the typical news sites get caught in the crossfire and can't tell if it's legit tidbit or if it's echo-fodder.

So what seems to be happening is that a lot of sites used this polygon interview as their source for claim for GPU and CPU upgrades on the One S. It starts very reasonable on the side of the journalists.... a developer from Gears 4 is a pretty good source.

Half the news sources now continue to make implicit claims it's a mid-gen upgrade, while others say it won't have any more power. Windows Central posted a correction linking to The Verge interview, saying this was a mistake and the additional "power" is not significant and only related to HDR.

Fire-and-forget headlines.

Also, stay away from any official interviews where the journalist doesn't quote, and only paraphrase what he think he understood. Terrible things happen when paraphrasing.

Polygon.

Games can perform better on Xbox One S
Better frame rates and higher resolution are possible on Microsoft's slimmer console

Good old Arthur Gies. Polygon has some pretty questionable writers but Arthur probably takes the cake. The trainwreck that was his review and defense of Sim City's online requirements were a sight to behold. Then Polygon changed the review score like 4 times to try to compensate. You can actually still see the listing from the original review on Metacritic, while clicking on it leads to the current score.

"For what it's worth, one Reddit user claimed to have had a bad experience with Pokémon GO developer Niantic after they were banned from the studio's previous game Ingress for doing something similar:"

Oh, something similar to sideloading? WHat is it? tell me

"Niantic used to ban people for drift hacking, and it would be a shame to find many new trainers suddenly being banned. The process to get unbanned is long and arduous, and it's not worth it."

O_O
sorry, but... What? That doesn't have anything to do with sideloading. That's a blatant cheating.

"Visit the APK file link here from your Android and hit download - you may be asked about installing files not from your app store, but this is fine."

That is... really unresponsible!
