Hmmm, a problem with Pascal or Gsync?

The problem disappears if the non-Gsync monitor is running at a high refresh rate but you limit the Gsync monitor to 60 Hz. The problem remains, however, if you run the Gysnc monitor (Gsync disabled or enabled, doesn't matter) at a high refresh rate. Would have been nice if they had more than just those 2 monitors to test.

Considering their GTX 980 Ti has the same problem, I'm more inclined to think it has something to do with the Gsync module unless it's something in the GPU that is shared between Pascal and Maxwell 2. Computerbase.de also noticed the issue with the 980 Ti, but I don't read German so I don't know what they have to say about it.

It's bizarre that this bug made it out into the wild considering that both the GPU and the Gsync module are Nvidia products.

So, apparently, GP104 has an issues with Pixel clocks exceeding 330 MHz via DL-DVI, as noted on the official geforce forums a couple of days ago and newsified by TPU today:

AFAIA, DL-DVI is specified up to 330 MHz (rather 165 MHz with twice the number of TMDS channels), so this is technically DVI overclocking which is not possible right now?

DL-DVI overclocking is very* popular with cheap korean monitors. These monitors are often cheap 27" 1440p B-panels made for internet cafes and the like, which have found quite the market on ebay. Some models can easily overclock to 96hz (and often higher). The DVI interface is the only one that can be overclocked, HDMI/DP include a scaler that thwarts OCing. So, some people, must be very unhappy with their new GPU.

e: NVIDIA can OC off-the-bat with custom resolutions. AMD needs a driver patch. Intel is (was?) impossible.

My Asus pg348q can be "overclocked" at max 100hz@3440x1440 via DP 1.2
 
Gigabyte to launch Mini-ITX version of GeForce GTX 1070
The new cardcarries SKu code GV-N1070IXOC 8GD and runs at 1531MHz with boost clock to 1721MHz. In OC Mode that is 1556MHz with a boost of of 1746MHz (software application with OC mode requried to be run) . The 1070 GTX reference card from Nvidia runs at a 1506MHz with boost to 1683MHz . There's 8GB of GDDR5 memory running at 8008MHz effectively. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 Mini ITX OC features a 5+1-phase power supply. Display outputs are DisplayPort 1.4 , HDMI 2.0b and two DVI ports. Te price should sit around 485 euros during its release.

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 SEA HAWK X review


We applied the following settings:
  • Temp Target 95 Degrees C
  • CPU clock + 150~175 MHz
  • Mem clock +700MHz
  • Voltage +100%
  • FAN RPM default
The Boost clock will now render at roughly 2100~2150 MHz depending on the power and temperature signature. The GPU will continuously be dynamically altered on voltage and clock frequency to match the power and temperature targets versus the increased core clock. In FireStrike we are now hovering at the 2.1 GHz marker on the Boost frequency for example, but some games jumped to roughly 2.15 GHz one second and dipped below 2 GHz the other.

Looks like there will be NO partner FE cards, they will all be custom. The only place you can get FE cards is from nV directly. So I think the pricing will be fairly close to the 249 bucks at least for the lower end models.

Looking at that relative comparison on 960 vs 1060, 1060 (at least in reference clock) is definitely below 980 in TR. I'm looking at 960 and 980 benchmark, 980 is more than 3x faster vs 960 in TR. It is also slower than 480 in TR.
In Witcher and Overwatch, 1060 should be close with 980 (980 probably a bit faster). If 1060 is as easy to OC as 1080/1070, it should easily be faster than 980 in Witcher and Overwatch, but probably still behind in TR.

VRam limitation has much to do with why the 960 is that far behind in TR. For over all performance the 960 is about 50% of the 980.

It turns out that if 960 isn't running out of memory in TR, then the relative performance between 960 vs 980 and 960 vs 1060 should be similar. They have 2GB and 4GB version for 960.
