PAL TV, refresh rate and console gaming

I have this discussion with a guy that claims that although the console is sending a 60Hz signal a PAL TV will still run at native 50 or 100Hz refresh rate. I'm pretty sure this is wrong, right? Hooking a PC up to a PAL TV I get 60FPS with vsync, but he claims console is different.
If anyone could provide a link/documentation either way it would be great.

All PAL TVs can show 50Hz and 60Hz, and games will output 60Hz even in PAL territories.

Also worth pointing out that PAL TVs via analog input can render any PAL 60hz stuff (except if your TV is really old like 30yo) but not necessarily NTSC 60hz stuff. Some people confuse the 2 concepts.

Look in your TV manual and, as you say, the signal description when changing input types. I get 60 Hz on PS3 and 50 Hz on digibox.

Yes, thanks for the tip. I get the same, 60Hz from XBO and PS4 and 50Hz from my TV decoder box.

You can set the xbox to output a 50hz signal also if you want, good if snapping tv as that is 50hz in pal regions.
