Yes, like pretty much all particle effects this gen and the last. It does look very realistic though, wouldn't you say?

Yeah, the easiest and most efficient way for such a stationary source is to go with footage. Actually a pretty good example of how to go for the CGI look - don't sweat it just for the bragging rights if you don't have to, cheat wherever you can :)

Funny story - on an old project we had to do a campfire, so we went down to the backyard and built one and shot it on video. Then we comped the footage into the CG scene and watched the results. All looked good - until a hand appeared from nowhere and put a stick of wood on top of the fire :)

LOL.

That's probably how Capcom made the fire to look as good as it did in RE4, although they looped it instead of having a long shot, of course.

Those screens! They're getting close to Diablo 3 CGs, in looks. 3 more days left.

Do you really want to go there?

D3 CGI uses *real* hair (btw, The Order doesn't have real hair primitives), and an order of magnitude better of the following: SSS, smoke, fire, skin, DOF, polygons, etc.. etc..

I think some of you want so bad to be playing a game that looks like CGI but if you really looked at this stuff on a daily basis, you'd realize how much far off games are from CGI.

I pity the fool!!!

Even if it's just
a texture animation
with a light flicker.
